Ratzinger's homilies mark him as a Pope-
maker. Not
the Pope.
He is the Dean of the College of Cardinals and has a certain influence. Furthermore, his longevity in having served 3 previous pontiffs as a cardinal adds further gravitas to JPII's former right hand man.
However, he won't be elected. Don't ask me who will be elected but Cardinal Ratzinger is Obi-Wan Kenobi while the new Pope is Skywalker. Forgive the banal and tawdry Hollywood metaphor but he is the wise old warrior, the keeper of JPII's "force", now aged in years but ready to pass on the mantle to whomever is elected to lead the Church forward.

EWTN didn't have a "Live from the Vatican" segment at 7 PM Rome time as scheduled, and there was no smoke, so I'm guessing that means the cardinal-electors decided to put off any balloting until tomorrow. After Mass earlier today, Raymond Arroyo mentioned a schedule change.

You very well may be right...he's worked hard at setting a tone, to get people to look at it spiritually, to consider being Christian in a world that doesn't want Christianity that much any more...He's led the people to the fountain, it's up to them to drink.

Only God knows who it will be, long before this whole process to name a successor even started.

Cardinal Ratzinger is Obi-Wan Kenobi while the new Pope is Skywalker. Luke, I hope you mean, rather than Anakin! And surely not Leia!!!!
Cardinal Dias makes the most sense to me, along with Arinze, Bergoglio, Scola, and Bertone. With usual caveat that that's from a worldly/human perspective.

In my worldly knowledge sort of way, though, I still wish it could be Ratzinger...I just know they are taking it spiritually seriously...

In my worldly knowledge, they're all worth candidates, because each one was handpicked to be Cardinals by JPII himself.

Lord God, you are our eternal shepherd and guide.
In your mercy grant your Church a shepherd who will walk in your ways
and whose watchful care will bring us your blessing.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
That's an appropriate prayer for any denomination, including my own.

There are a few I think I would exclude from that number, even if picked by JP2, cause I don't think they turned out exactly as he might have hoped....

Why? What's wrong with Ratzinger? Nothing wrong with him. He & the other two just weren't named Cardinals by JPII.
