Statement from ACN Moderator on Executive Council’s Letter [ECUSA]
titusonenine ^ | 4/14/2005 | The Rt. Rev. Robert Duncan

What the response of the Episcopal Church’s Executive Council to the 2005 Primates’ Communique gives with one hand, it takes away with the other. While it gives an appearance of complying with the Primates’ request, in actuality it does not. The Primates asked the ECUSA delegation to withdraw from the Anglican Consultative Council (AAC) – the only appropriate response is therefore to stay at home.

The Executive Council’s request for the ECUSA delegation to appear unofficially is reminiscent of many of the Episcopal Church’s recent actions: Delegated Episcopal Pastoral Oversight (DEPO) Plan sounds like Alternative Episcopal Oversight but it is not the same thing. Saying to the world the Episcopal Church has not authorized same-sex blessings – while observing that such blessings are “within the practice” of this Church – is more of the same.

The response to the Primates is a technical yes and an actual no. The response is extremely disappointing. It is also, of course, dishonest in any coherent moral analysis.

As to the ultimate purpose of the Anglican Communion as described by the Executive Council, I disagree. Our lives as Christians in the Anglican tradition are not marked by creating a “new humanity” but rather by giving worship to the only true God, by attesting the salvation of God through Christ and by experiencing the transformation that comes through faith in Him.

The Rt. Rev. Robert Duncan

Bishop of Pittsburgh

[To the Traditional Anglican ping list: There has been a LOT of material posted about this response, and I've been trying to select the most non-repetitive material. Right now from this site alone, on this and the CT6 I'm looking at several more postings. Though I expect this (at least) to fade over the next few days, I'd like to know: Is this too much, want more, move on to next topic, what? I'm trying to stay close to the 7-post/day upper limit, though it's gone over the past few days. --sionnsar]

Traditional Anglican ping, continued in memory of its founder Arlin Adams.

FReepmail sionnsar if you want on or off this moderately high-volume ping list (typically 3-7 pings/day).
This list is pinged by sionnsar and newheart.

Sometimes events will warrant more than seven pings a day.

Personally I am grateful for the information, even if I don't always respond on threads. An occasional twelve or fifteen pings is not going to kill me. :D

Post and ping away.

I'd prefer to have the chance to read them, or not, than to not see them at all.

Thanks for your efforts. This must be time-consuming since thre is so much on the AAC, and the CT 6. I wish I weren't so busy packing to move and could offer to help. It's even difficult at this time for me to stay abreast of what is happening in my Church, but you are doing yeoman's work.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the replies! I was concerned because soon after I started increasing the posting level a few people dropped off due to volume. Thus the warning on the ping. OTOH, more have joined the ping list since.

Look..God made the world in 6 days, and rested on the 7th, right? So it's not unreasonable to expect that it'll take us mere mortal more than seven posts a day to fix His church..
