[This is a sidebar that appears with the Kyrkans Tidning article. Again, my translation, followed by the Swedish original. CH]

The Mission Province

The Mission Province is a breakaway group with persons within the Church of Sweden.

Those who take part in the province are opposed to women serving as priests. Therefore they cannot become ordained as priests or bishops within the Church of Sweden.

The Mission Province now has received help from Bishop Walter Obare of Kenya. Obare today has consecrated the former pastor Arne Olsson as bishop for the province. Olsson will in turn ordain other members as priests.

In this way Swedish opponents of women's ordination can get around the Church of Sweden's rules and still be ordained priests with the help of a Lutheran bishop.

The question now is if Arne Olsson loses the right to be a priest in the Church of Sweden.

The church's own rules say that a priest will be declared unauthorized if he or she has gone beyond the Church of Sweden's teaching, has walked out of the church, or has broken the promises which the priests make when they become ordained to serve within the Church of Sweden.

Arne Olsson belongs to the Karlstad Diocese. Now the diocese will try and see if the church's rules make it possible for him to continue as a priest in the Church of Sweden or not.

Missionsprovinsen
