What is it with American bishops misrepresenting their communication with Vatican officials? First, it was Cardinal McCarrick misrepresenting Cardinal Ratzinger on pro-abortion Catholic politicians receiving Communion, and now its Archbishop Harry Flynn of Minneapolis misrepresenting Cardinal Francis Arinze on giving Communion to the Rainbow Sash movement.
Last month, Archbishop Flynn, who had caused a ruckus in his archdiocese when he refused to disallow the Sash-ayers from using Communion as a statement of dissent, said that Cardinal Arinze, prefect of the Congregation for Worship, did not ask him to change his policy of giving Eucharist to the Sash-ayers after he asked him about it. That was dutifully reported by Catholic News Service, the official news service of the US bishops conference.
But that didnt sound like Cardinal Arinze, so Barbara Kralis decided to just write a letter to the Cardinal and ask him if Archbishop Flynns statements represented the reality. The cardinals reply:
Dear Ms. Kralis, His Eminence, Francis Cardinal Arinze, asks me to thank you for your communication regarding a news release from the Catholic News Service dated December 14, 2004. It concerns the Cardinals private discussion with the Archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis, His Excellency Archbishop Harry J. Flynn.
Cardinal Arinze wants you to know that the report was not exact and does not show his stand. He has written Archbishop Flynn about it.
Rainbow Sash wearers, the Cardinal says, are showing their opposition to Church teaching on a major issue of natural law and so disqualify themselves from being given Holy Communion."
Thats not just a difference in emphasis, that is a complete contradiction. How can Archbishop Flynn explain this? Is Cardinal Arinze lying?
The wonderful about modern communications is that we no longer just have to accept what people say on the face of it, but we can go right to the source and get clarity. Unfortunately, the US hierarchy seems to be slow to catch on to this new reality.
Now the question: what ELSE are these guys lying about?
ANOTHER reason for promoting the Cause of Beatification of Tomas de Torquemada...
A few (what were those bundles of kindling called????) in Minneapolis would be helpful in January. It's cold up there.
I may be ignorant, but i will ask: Who is Tomas de torquemada?
Torquemada was the Man-In-Charge of the Spanish Inquisition. Maligned by most, and regarded as the picture of evil, in fact, he ran an exceptionally justice-laden courtroom.
Some of his assistants were a bit, ah, trigger-happy, though.
Google will give you a LOT of information, some of which is accurate. Don't believe for a minute the extraordinarily inflated number of 'killings.'
Thanks!
Homos are in their own fantasy land. They make up an imaginary reality to suit their own needs. It would be better for the Pope to appoint a committee of heterosexual laymen to interrogate candidates for bishoprics before they are officially installed. A MUCH more thorough vetting process is needed. One look at the costs of the molestation and pedophile rape cases ought to make it clear WHY this is needed.
Back when I was in college, I expected Arinze would someday replace John Paul II. But he is nearly as old as John Paul, and therefore an unlikely candidate now.
Maybe we should have a moratorium on naming Irish-American bishops especially if they are from the northeast states.
Two syllables?
You're gonna need more than "a few" of those bundles.
So, when does the good Archbishop get to retire?
Apparently there are a LOT of those 'bundles' in the Twin Cities...
And the imagery of them being "bundled" together is NOT pretty...
As someone who is 100 per cent Irish in background and carries a U.S. passport, let me say that Archbishop Harry Flynn is an evil rotten Sheilah who deserves a banshee's visitation. McCarrick deserves far worse, but no one is asking me so its back to waltzing Matilda and trying to find something that vaguely resembles a Mass.
LOL!
Thanks goodness Cardinal Arinze doesn't beat about the bush and was open about what he'd told Flynn.
Cardinal Arinze is a true Prince of the Church.
