I received First Holy Communion in 1939 and Confirmation in 1943. I do not know the year of the catechism but it was Baltimore pre 1949.
We were taught that we belonged to the One True, Apostolic Church. We believed that we were the only ones to go to Heaven.
At least that is what the Nuns and Priests of those days taught us.
And it is why the joke existed that St. Peter was showing Heaven to a newly arrived person. Upon passing by a high wall, St Peter told the person to be very quiet. The reason being that, "Thee are Catholics behind there and they think they are the only ones up here".

In Baltimore 3 Q. 510 makes it clear that those who are baptized (the heretics that is), practices his religion as if it was the true Faith, and dies without the guilt of mortal sin on soul can be saved.
