Likewise an orthodox Catholic will confuse people by supporting strict adherence to Vatican guidelines on liturgical celebrations and perhaps even a widespread restoration of the Tridentine form of the Latin liturgy, at the same time as he speaks against corporate domination of the economy and warns that the policy of "my country right of wrong" originated in Hell. Translation: Be a GIRM-observer on liturgy, and a political liberal.

Sometimes I'm wondering about this question: What is exactly the difference between religion and philosophy (ideology)? I don't think it's the presence of God, as some religions do not recognize any deity. Nor do I think it lies on the ethics, as 'philosophy/ideology' surely offers something on that...
I think because our definition of religion is shaped by the Judeo-Christianity concepts, it is the Jews and Christians who have to 'defend religion', while some others, because their beliefs are seen as 'philosophy', they can get away if they're taught in school...

they do exist. one of my friends is thinking of joining FSSP, but is also an avowed economic socialist and can't stand Bush. Honestly I don't see much wrong with his views, at least from a Catholic standpoint. He has the sense to realize that socialism is not the "official" teaching of the Church, nor is capitalism (though to hear some bishops talk, you'd think the former was dogma). He is orthodox on doctrinal matters, and politically conservative on most social issues, like abortion. I think his economic views are wrong, but they don't make him a heretic. He is, however, concerned about getting more deeply involved with traditionalists because he feels they will not respect his political beliefs.
