Contact your bishops immediately! Liberal Bishop to Lead USCCB Liturgy Committee

The bishops have apparently now voted Bishop Trautman as head of the Bishops Committee on the Liturgy. This is horrible, horrible news for those of us who are more traditional on matters liturgical. In this America article, Bishop Trautman expresses his views about the wretched oppression Rome is visiting upon the Church with its attempts to reform the liturgy.

See comments toward bottom on Bishop Trautman heading the liturgy committee--If you're not aware of His Excellecy's views on the liturgy, this is a travesty for anyone hoping to see a quick death to the kumbayah, let's all hold hands liturgical styles still en vogue with the liturgical establishment. His Excellency has openly stated that "Liturgicam Authenticam" (the Vatican document on liturgical translations approved by the Holy Father focusing on the need for correct and reverent translations) is a "shame". http://www.americamagazine.org/gettext.cfm?articleTypeID=1&textID=1162&issueID=347

He is known for opposing any efforts to reform the reform, considering them a "step backwards." In short, for those of you who want to see more reverence, awe, and fidelity to the text in the liturgy, this is among the worst possible choices. How the US bishops would appoint a bishop who openly opposes the Vatican on liturgical matters as president of their liturgical committee is beyond me--Where are the orthodox bishops on this??!!

Please flood your bishop's office with complaints about this selection and let them know that the time for the do-it-yourself-liturgy is over.

Bp. Troutman?

Uhmmm...hate to be picky, but that's Bp. Troutperson!

Liturgical language must reflect diversity and reject patriarchal patterns of injustice.

Won't do me any good here in Albany NY. This diocese is run by one of the most liberal bishops in the US.

For those unfamiliar with Bishop Trautman's stance on liturgy, the following are comments he made to Adoremus Bulletin, one year ago.

"As the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy fades in time, is it also fading in influence?" he asked. "Do we recognize a pullback from the liturgical principles, a lessening of collaboration, a return to devotionalism rather than Eucharistic celebration? Is there a liturgical backsliding that causes us to be disillusioned, dejected, disheartened? We need to recall the founders of the American Liturgical Movement. These liturgical pioneers did not give up and we must not give up. We must not surrender the progress made at Vatican II".

Bishop Trautman to Liturgists: "Keep up your courage"

Remain calm! These bishops do not make policy; they simply recommend. The days are numbered for these aging prelates. Console yourself with the knowledge and understanding that young people today, are drawn more to the traditional aspects of the church.

And what do you suggest that people tell the bishops?

All those who have made claims that "things are getting better," please report after class for remedial instruction. Things are not getting any better. This Trautman is one of the very worst of the bunch. He will make an excellent sidekick to the new President of the USCCB who believes the 52% vote gives him a mandate for further coverups of corruption, further stealing of the money and property of the faithful, further feather-bedding of the love nests of the sodomites in charge, and generally filing for bankruptcy not just for his diocese but for the entire American Catholic Church.

While he is busy robbing Catholics blind, Trautman will be stealing their Catholic liturgical heritage. I'm afraid the "do it yourself" Mass is far from over with Trautman running the liturgy committee.

But let's not forget that the Catholic Church is considered reactionary in Europe. The Europeans are far ahead of us on the downward slope. Signs of a "new springtime" breaking out are conspicuous by their absence everywhere in the world.

If there is anyone left who still believes that things are going to get better if we only stay the course, if the past 40 years of auto-demolition of the Church have taught you nothing, what will it take to wake you up to reality? You can look forward to 4 more years of status quo from your bishops. Until we see people like Skylstad and Trautman tarred and feathered, the Church will continue moving in only 1 direction -- towards the brink of extinction.

"Captain, the bishops' meeting has been hijacked by alien forces led by the renegade liturgist commander Gabe Huck. They have been relocated in a parallel universe similar to ours, but missing elementary logic capabilities.
They are currently in the process of wreaking havoc and spreading chaos.
What are your orders?"

"Mr. Spock, all weapons systems to be set on orthodoxy level 9, Council of Trent mode.
Fire on my orders. And get some of our people down there to rescue these poor creatures before they can do further damage."

"Yes, Captain."

"Scotty, how soon can you return them to the real world?"

"It's hopeless, Captain!!. They've been gone a wee bit longer than forty years now! You're asking me to do the impossible!."

Let them go. We might as well get this schism over with.

I think I've seen him interviewed before. Is his demeanor/affect kind of "swishy" ? Couldn't think how else to phrase it.

In need of a history lesson here. In the past, when a clear and present danger, on a similar order of magnitude presented itself, was the Laity as incapable of effecting a favorable outcome as it is now? Or is schism the only way out?

"To the escape pods"

This is sickening, really sickening. When will we be freed from these Bishops. Thank God it is only a three year term, I just hope that the next Pope is rather more authoritarian than the current one (that is my big problem with this Pope).

You know I figured out how to live with the awful new chairman,Skylstad and why it may even be a blessing that one of the conservative orthodox Bishops did not prevail But this makes me sick and furious.

The selected candidates were Rigali and Vigneron. Both very good. Then someone nominated Traoutman from the floor. I want to know who that vermin was, does anyone know?

Furthermore, they had big problems withthe electronic balloting so I don't believe what they are reporting on that election. Additionally, who is allowed to vote and on what issues. Someone noted that our little xbishop was there. Knowing his established modus operandi,I would bet the little conniving deceiver found some way to cast a ballot.

Once I find out who nominated him I think I have a plan. Please, does anybody know? Help!!

I don't know of a situation in the history of the church like that we face today - back when the Church was in peril, changes usually started from the top and worked their way down, - today, every where you turn theres another enemy.

Good question though, I gotta look it up.

When will we be freed from these bishops? Thats easy. When the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass returns - they all hate that and will scatter like chickens.

Maybe this is God's way of driving the flock towards traditionalism. He's going to make things so hot that even many of the go-along get-along Catholics will reconsider traditional Catholicism, if only to regain some stability in their lives. The others will just carry on leaving the Church as at present.

Its time for trads to get militantly evangelistic! These developments can only serve to increase the relative numbers of trads in the Church - whichever traditional organisations they find their way into.

I have a possibly related, but maybe even better question: what were Egan and Mahoney up to? How did they vote on things? Did they speak? Nominate......or orchestrate things behind the scenes?

Remember: these are two of Bernadin boys......cut from the same cloth as their masters.....both the earthly and unearthly ones!

Agreed. But let me ask a humerous and at least partly rhetorical question: which would be better....to walk into the USCCB meeting opening fire with an AK-47, or wielding a butterfly net?

Excellent question which I have also wondered. Are there any historical precedents to follow? I think I've heard of heretical bishops being chased out of their cathedrals by angry mobs, but I think that was in the East.

I'd be interested to hear any input from those who know of historical precedents where the laity took action against heretical and/or corrupt prelates.

"was the Laity as incapable of effecting a favorable outcome as it is now?"

In the late 1520's, the people of Devon and Cornwall were so sick with the new English communion service forced on them by Henry VIII's reforms, that they rose up in revolt.

In one town they insisted that the priest start saying Mass in Latin again and that he wear proper vestments. When he refused, they took him up the bell tower and hung him by the neck from it with his new robes.

Thus began the great "Western Rising" against the king's new religion. Henry couldn't get any Englishmen to fight against them so he put them down with foreign mercenaries from Ireland and Poland (not speaking the language, they didn't know why they were fighting them). Because of this the rising was suppressed and 3,000 gibbets were erected from Devon to Land's End to hold the bodies of those who had rebelled.

It might have ended in glorious failure back then, but as the USCCB will soon all be bankrupt, they won't have the money to hire mercenaries!!! The possibilities will be endless!
