But if the husband be indeed an ignorant sot, or have made himself unable to instruct his wife, she is not bound to ask him in vain, to teach her that which he understands not himself. I am intrigued by this particular quote. I can't help but wonder how many marriages have been ruined by this particular flaw????

A good husband will either make a good wife, or easily and profitably endure a bad oneThat realism is missing in a lot of modern writing.

Very well written. Excellent for today as it was in that day and no hint of legalism.
I just read a book which said a Husband had to open the car door for his wife "Always" and was responsible for her outward beauty. The book IMHO was promoting legalism.
This however, seems fully scriptural and sound. We could use much of it in the pulpits these days!

I'm honored that you invite me to a GRPL function....and you put my name first. Gives me a warm fuzzy down deep!
If we combine the Neeners and the GRPLs we could start a group of NRDLS.

A Christian Directory is solid counsel on pretty much every aspect of life....and it shows in its three column, thousand page tiny print publication.
I do disagree with Mr. Baxter that sleeping in is a sin though....perhaps because I love to sleep in...

Yep. Cute, but not nearly as good as your tagline.

My oft-repeated favorite tagline of someone whose name I've forgotten --
"Proudly posting without reading the thread since 1999."

The husband is to excel the wife in knowledge,But never let on that such is the case if he knows what is good for him.

The husband is to excel the wife in knowledge,
But what about when his wife is a perfectionist who has always been a 4.0 to include a college math degree? She's one smart cookie.
He's no slouch, but he only managed that in a masters program at KSU. I think she was taken by his disarming smile and immense charm.
