Theoretical situation:

Candidate A is pro-abortion, but against euthanasia and homo marriage.

Candidate B is pro-euthanasia and pro-homo-marriage, but is against abortion, except in the cases of rape and incest.

A Catholic, in this case would quite possibly have proportionate reasons to vote for Candidate A. It's a tough call, but is at least arguable.

I would vote for the Republican.

Candidate B would be an odd duck, to be anti-abortion but pro-euthanasia.

I read what Cardinal Ratzinger wrote and my understanding is different. I thought he said that in cases where both candidates were pro-abortion but one(A) was against parent notification and voted aganist the ban on partial birth abortion then given that other(B)stands are in accord with catholic teaching, and he believed in parent notification and supported the partial birth abortion ban,it would be permisible to vote for candidate (B) and receive communion.

This has always been my understanding of what the Vatican has advised in the past so it makes sense to me. I believe that when the more comprehensive explanation comes out, that is basically what Burke will say. Hope I am right.
