I can definitely relate to this author's experiences re communion in the sects. I get the dirtiest looks when I pass the plate without taking anything. Looks that say, "What, you think you are too good for this?" And then to keep an even keel when the very same people speak of having taken Eucharist when they are respectfully asked not to, is not an easy task. I've heard so many people both Catholic and non just have no problem with this it's sickening.

Mother Teresa is mentioned and her message is very true. What is really glaringly appearant is that society has lost respect all the way around - respect for self, others, God - the list is endless. At Mass this morning, in the Cathedral, the seat of the church in my archdiocese on the second most solemn feast of the year, a woman showed up in denim cuttoffs. It struck me as indicative of attitudes out there right now. Casual and half-asked.

I am Lutheran (LCMS) and often get the same looks when I don't commune with my relatives of different churches. In my understanding, if you take communion in a church, you are aligning yourself with all that church teaches. I can not in good conscience do that.
