Let's hope they can avoid caving in here. If they do, I can almost guarantee you that 30 years from now the Roman Catholic Church will be identical in practice and in moral theology to the Episcopal Church. These dissenters are already calling for women priests and for more "democracy" in the handling of church affairs. Once they get the married clergy, the women clergy and the "democracy" will not be far behind.

Standing firm -- yes! Thank you!
1599 In the Latin Church the sacrament of Holy Orders for the presbyterate is normally conferred only on candidates who are ready to embrace celibacy freely and who publicly manifest their intention of staying celibate for the love of God's kingdom and the service of men.
|
1580 In the Eastern Churches a different discipline has been in force for many centuries: while bishops are chosen solely from among celibates, married men can be ordained as deacons and priests. This practice has long been considered legitimate; these priests exercise a fruitful ministry within their communities. Moreover, priestly celibacy is held in great honor in the Eastern Churches and many priests have freely chosen it for the sake of the Kingdom of God. In the East as in the West a man who has already received the sacrament of Holy Orders can no longer marry.
|
1579 All the ordained ministers of the Latin Church, with the exception of permanent deacons, are normally chosen from among men of faith who live a celibate life and who intend to remain celibate "for the sake of the kingdom of heaven." Called to consecrate themselves with undivided heart to the Lord and to "the affairs of the Lord," they give themselves entirely to God and to men. Celibacy is a sign of this new life to the service of which the Church's minister is consecrated; accepted with a joyous heart celibacy radiantly proclaims the Reign of God.

People create problems for themselves. I don't understand something; why in a world these people suddenly want to change what has been for centuries. How awful is to defy God laws and rules? Woe I mean woe to these people who want to change church dogma. I will and I repeat never ever accept woman as a priest it is abomination. If you think about it Church is our lord bride how then woman be a priest? Would this not be like man to man or woman to woman relationship I mean I don't want to even pronounce this because it makes me sick. Woe to those who want to change God ways. We should pray for them. God bless you all. And if my statements made many of you upset I am sorry but reality is what it is. God Bless all of you. Happy New Year.

Indeed -- lots of woe.
Isn't there a quote from one of the saints (paraphrasing)
"The floor of hell is paved with the skulls of bishops." St. John Crysotum (sp)??

If they do, I can almost guarantee you that 30 years from now the Roman Catholic Church will be identical in practice and in moral theology to the Episcopal Church. If you are Catholic, I should hope you would have more faith in the indefectibility of Holy Mother Church than that. The Church will never embrace error. The danger is not what will become of the Roman Catholic Church; it is what will become of the many who cut themselves off from the Church by their dissent, and to those who are torn from the Church by scandal and deceit.
