45,000 E-mails and Counting – Thank You

October 6, 2003

2:08 PM ET BEGIN TRANSCRIPT Rush Limbaugh Radio Show

Let me again express a sentiment of pure love and appreciation for all of you. Since last week, when the ESPN brouhaha hit and the drug story hit, the number of e-mails is unbelievable to me. It's approaching the 45,000 mark now. I continue to be overawed by it.

And I just want to take some time here to acknowledge a vast majority of people's support. It is overwhelming. And I want you to know I'm getting it and I receive it. It moves me deeply and greatly. I appreciate it, as I have your support of this program all 15 years, more than I am able to express with words. And I just want you to know that. I never have said it enough, and I want to try to correct that from now on, but I said last Friday that we in this program, we have almost a familial type relationship that has evolved here, and I understand what that entails. And I understand the bond of loyalty that exists and what ties that loyalty together, and one of the things is trust. And I realize that that is shaken in a lot of you, but yet you maintain that you are full-fledged behind me. And I appreciate that, and you will have that support, I hope, validated. You will know that I have continued, and will do what I have to do to earn it, and never take it for granted.

Before we get any further with all this I just want you to know how I appreciate what you're all saying, how much I appreciate all that you've done over all these years and how desperately much I appreciate your expressions of support now. Believe me. I notice it and I'm taking none of it for granted. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I guess by your standard, It's George Putnam's fault that we're asleep at the switch.

Hannity made me a little queasy today talking of Rush. He said he knew many people, professional even, who were addicted to pain meds.

I think Hannity knows something and is too stupid to shut up until the truth comes out. Or, he knows nothing and is just trying to protect Rush in his naivete.

I'm reserving judgement regarding the pills.
Regarding McNabb, I read other similar opinions that didn't get called racist. Regardless, he is intelligent enough to have worded his comments differently. For that, I fault him. In explaining that he thought it over and said it anyway, leads me to believe he said 'to heck with them, I say what I want'. He had to have known what the results would be. He prides himself on saying what he wants and let the chips fall. They fell alright lol

Perhaps, but until I hear the facts from Rush AFTER THIS MESS IS OVER, I am not theorizing one way or the other. All I can do is support my buddy during his particular time of trouble. After all, I think thats what trust and conservatism is all about.....

Oh great.. you're a convert.. congradulations.

I wasn't talking about me I was talking about what Rush has done for the cause by converting thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, to the conservative movement. I was asking just what have you done to top that? I'm still waiting for your answer.

For all of the reasons you mentioned and more, I'm wondering if this is a set-up job? If ANYONE took as many pills each day as he is supposedly taking, he wouldn't make a good corpse, much less be able to function. Sean Hannity today asked Ed Asner if he (Asner) really said "they (Dims) were going to get Sean LIKE THEY DID RUSH". Asner weasled out some answer ("I was joking" or something similar). None of this passes the smell test.

Absolutely, there's a lot of us out here like that. We might never have seen the truth had he not been there to help us see it. For that I am grateful to him and always will be.

Nice try with your strawman argument, but I've never said that "to be a conservative is to love Rush." I'm saying he was and is inarguably central to the movement. Like him OR NOT, this is undeniable--only an envious fool or a DU disruptor would deny this.

I sent an email of support to Rush a couple of days ago. I'm glad he is getting swamped. He needs to know that despite some of the harpies around here that are out for blood, that most of us support him and trust him and are more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I don't need Rush's act translated for me. I figured out his schtick in 30 seconds; it's not real complicated. Thanks all the same.

The press ethic that he applied to McNabb (wrongly in my opinion), was certainly operative in the Sorenstam story several months ago. It's been years since my work schedule allowed me to listen to his show at all, so I didn't hear what he had to say about that golf event, but a politically correct press pack mentality, favoring a liberal point of view, probably was the windmill at which he was tilting-- unfortuneatly, the windmill unhorsed him. I suspect he would have relished a counter argument by his ESPN colleagues, which would have allowed him to flesh out his thesis, and soften the racial flavor of his comments.

"And each day the conservative movement got more and more comfortable in their sleep, being hypnotized by "El Rushbo", while their country goes to hell.

Speak for yourself.

From what I've seen, Limbaugh has galvanized the movement with wit, humor, and common sense, without being a tight-lipped idealogue, which is how many conservatives are viewed by a large segment of the public.

Sure, there were conservative radio talk show personalities before, Bob Grant, Les Kinsolving, etc, but Limbaugh has a unique ability to make people come back day after day. And he seems able to put a political issue in persepctive.
