45,000 E-mails and Counting – Thank You

October 6, 2003

2:08 PM ET BEGIN TRANSCRIPT Rush Limbaugh Radio Show

Let me again express a sentiment of pure love and appreciation for all of you. Since last week, when the ESPN brouhaha hit and the drug story hit, the number of e-mails is unbelievable to me. It's approaching the 45,000 mark now. I continue to be overawed by it.

And I just want to take some time here to acknowledge a vast majority of people's support. It is overwhelming. And I want you to know I'm getting it and I receive it. It moves me deeply and greatly. I appreciate it, as I have your support of this program all 15 years, more than I am able to express with words. And I just want you to know that. I never have said it enough, and I want to try to correct that from now on, but I said last Friday that we in this program, we have almost a familial type relationship that has evolved here, and I understand what that entails. And I understand the bond of loyalty that exists and what ties that loyalty together, and one of the things is trust. And I realize that that is shaken in a lot of you, but yet you maintain that you are full-fledged behind me. And I appreciate that, and you will have that support, I hope, validated. You will know that I have continued, and will do what I have to do to earn it, and never take it for granted.

Before we get any further with all this I just want you to know how I appreciate what you're all saying, how much I appreciate all that you've done over all these years and how desperately much I appreciate your expressions of support now. Believe me. I notice it and I'm taking none of it for granted. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

he would have relished a counter argument...which would have allowed him to flesh out his thesis

No doubt. Would have been a good argument. Shame there's such a lack of discourse. The PC crap really kills it. But, that's part of the plan since they don't teach critical thinking in public school anymore.

". . .but the guy has never been humble.. when under attack use whatever means neccessary to fight the media war. . .instead he'll use numbers "

Well, these numbers could be considered 'great' or. . .'small'; depends on personal reference. For Rush's enemies; they might well believe and probably do. . .that 45,000 is not much considering his audience. . .they would be the first to offer as well, that he probably recieved 'TWO' if he just gave a non-specific 'thank-you'.

Of course, bottom line, if you do not like Rush; he will not 'win' by any scenario.

As for his lack of humility; much of that is 'show' and 'tongue and cheek' as for the rest; well. . .he does acknowledge everyday his talent; and it's origin. :^)

How many time do we have to explain

I don't need Rush or his audience's behavior explained to me at all. It is plain to see and requires no "users guide".

Trying to obscure the plain meaning of words for political or intellectual expediency is a classic tactic of the left. No thanks.

I've seen with my own eyes and heard with my own ears the cultural phenomenon that is Rush Limbaugh. It's nothing more than a cult of personality. A sad commentary on the right IMO. I was calling him a clown and a buffoon before this board even existed.

Ditto!!!

If he's so grateful why is he releasing the number of emails he's getting?... he has 45,000 support emails(and don't forget.. and counting). Get over yourself Rush.. you need to pass on quietly into retirement.

Do I detect a little envy? Jealousy, perhaps?

People often project animosity towards someone when they themselves are feeling inadequate.

That would be cool. Is there such a thing as talk radio in Europe?

Yeah, it starts out in Danish, and is translated into French, German, Norweigan, Italian, and Lithouanian each time it crosses the border.

No, really. Imagine how hard it would be, considering some countries are smaller than some of our states.

Of course, most people speak English, since it is a mandatory language taken in grades K-8, I believe.

It was entirely predictable that a dittohead would resort to ad hominem to protect his sacred cow.

It was you who said that if you are a conservative, then an attack on Rush is an attack on "you". By your own simplistic construction, you have irrevocably equated Rush Limbaugh with conservatism. My response was a directed one. Yours certainly wasn't.

Why are dittoheads so entirely predictable? It's a common symptom of personality cult victims.

agreed...but Rush might have been able to take it a lot further, and maintain his presence in that setting for years to come, with a cliche weasel phrase, like "some people are saying McNabb...."

That 'five minutes' is your limit to listening to Rush is very clear; you do not even understand the origin or the meaning of 'dittos' in the Rush venacular.

No one says you have to love or even listen to Rush; I am just trying to figure why you are on this post; commenting about someone you really have no honest clue about.

I would email him, but I think you have to be a Rush 24/7 member.

I don't "irrevocably equate." Rush Limbaugh IS a conservative. Rush Limbaugh is arguably THE arch conservative. You are a malcontent making nebulous points dancing around my undeniable assertion because you simply do not like the man. If you think Rush is not being attacked because of his staunch conservatism, then that's your problem. Regardless, his conservatism is under attack, therefore all conservatives are under attack. This can and has applied to other notable conservatives as well.

Oh I agree...see my #84

he is intelligent enough to have worded his comments differently. For that, I fault him. In explaining that he thought it over and said it anyway, leads me to believe he said 'to heck with them, I say what I want'. He had to have known what the results would be. He prides himself on saying what he wants and let the chips fall. They fell alright

Another users guide to Rush Limbaugh defense.

So basically, Rush is boorish, a clown, pompous without reason, arrogant without reason, unless you're in the in crowd? Yeah.

I've listened to many many hours of Rush, fyi. I'm not so bold as to venture an opinion on this thread without having long experience and considered the subject carefully.

Dittoheads' complaints with me may have some merit. To whit, Who am I to complain if a large group of voters who vote my way most of the time, if they get their political education and direction from a clown? Nevermind the fact that the same clown becomes a symbol of conservatism and Republicanism, an albatross driving away millions of moderate Americans?

Now that would be a great debate, trying to figure out whether Rush has actually brought any net gain to the conservative movement. Of course, it's an unknowable, though the dittoheads would have no problem offering "proofs" that Rush saved America from Al Gore himself. One poster on this very thread has already said something like Rush is more important than Reagan!

I will give Rush and his dittoheads this - they are entertaining.

He's wrong.. twice in a little over a week.

And exactly what did he do that was so wrong? He was hired by ESPN to express his opinions. He did, and because the leftist mainstream media didn't like it, he has been slaughtered by the media.

And the drug thing - we don't even know what that is really about. When did the National Enquirer become a source of real news?

You make as good an argument as can be made I suppose. I believe Rush's influence on real consertavism to be wide but very shallow. To invite even more flames, he's a useful idiot. A handy tool with which to daily beat liberals and hoist them upon their many petards.

But does Rush command intellectual respect on the right? Please. He's strictly low-cal.

Rush didn't create conservatism, he capitalized on it, early and well. Only in that regard will I concede his genius.

It's notable how many of Rush's most fervent defenders admit Rush was their introduction to politics. That's what I don't like about ditto this and ditto that. It's all so very Pavlovian.
