The Republican Platform is Pro-Life. If they want to modify it, so be it - but they don't have the guts or the honesty to do so.

Well, aren't you "typical liberal"....throwing out David Duke's name there.....how special......NO, I do NOT live in California....I live in Washington, the STATE, which has its own liberal problems, many of them caused as a result of CALIFORNICATION here......and I'm a REALIST....I expect to see Arnold in office with McClintock as his MAJOR RIGHT HAND....

Then you need to find another party... because not all Republicans who run for office will be a pro-life candidate. And being pro-life is not a litmus test for being Republican.

The Democrats (along with a few Senate Republicans) established the principle that flaws in one's private life should not be considered barriers to holding public office.
I've come to the conclusion that we need to use this prinicple to hurt the Dems.

sheesh.
That's your dismissive response to an article that says character counts? "Character counts" was once the motto of conservatives -- when we were decrying the lack of character exhibited by Bill Clinton. Was that just a phoney political ploy on our part? Not for me.

This isn't Arnold first run for governor. He had an aborted run last time but nobody seems to remember why. This board has a collective memory loss.

Yet another example of why Dr
Keyes has never had the impact
on voters or the Republican Party
that his knowledge and intelligence warrants.
Fire-breathing denuniciations of
the "evil" of Arnold Schwarzenegger are rhetorical
overkill and give rise to the
left-wing caricature of the
"religious right."
The issues that motivate Dr Keyes
to hurl fire and brimstone--Arnold's social views--
are irrelevant on the gubernatorial level.
The abortion question, for example, cannnot be decided at the state level. Nor can the right
to bear arms.
Schwarzenegger supports tax cuts,
a reduction in wasteful social
spending, and responsive state
government. These are strong
conservative positions.
McClintock is a fine man, but history has shown that California
voters will reject ideological
conservatives.
The welfare of the people of
California---not conservative
purity--dictates the victory of
Schwarzenegger over the Davis-clone, Bustamonte.

"
You need to read the whole article. The last few paragraphs put the blame exactly where it always must lie ultimately...and it ain't all on Arnold."
Are you for real?
Just when is the election for the Republican party?
Take the McClintock out of your eyes.
Yea, I know. You can't.

"Arnold's corruption of Republican Party" Mr. Keyes, Vanna wants to know if you would like to buy a "the"?
To: sd-joe
He is a total failure in the political areaAnd that's why he and his followers have to brand the rest of us as evil.
Their very existence depends on it.

It is the point of the article. Read the headline.
To: kellynla
Gee whiz! I think the McClintock supporters are getting as desperate as Gov. Dufus supporters. Read the handwriting on the wall. Arnold is going to win like it or not.

Source please. This is a longstanding debate between the Anti-Keyesians and the pro-Keyesians. Sinkspur is referencing the 2001 (CPAC?) convention in Dallas (which I attended). There is a transcript floating around here somewhere if you perform a search. Keyes pointed out that Bush made a wrong decision on the ESCR issue, and warned against the evil that you don't see. It is a greater threat than the evil that you do see, because at least if you see it, you can oppose it. Keyes never called Bush evil. Sinkspur will tell you differently. However, I can attest that about 80% of the people who watched that speech were on their feet, applauding at just about every one of Keyes' points, including the one he made about the need to stand against evil in all its forms.
To: churchillbuff
Why do you think Arnold has a bad character? Is that based on allegations, most of which he said was untrue?

You can't force the Republican party into the "just conservative need apply" category. Oh, but they want to!!

Arnold Schwarzenegger is on the evil sideThat is so funny I almost spilt my coffee... I love it when EASTERNERS try to tell us in California what we need, and, at the same time, speak of state sovereignty ... Easterners, stay out, stick to what you know: Atlantic City Casinos, Hurricanes, Hillary, Kennedy, and the UN.
