I disagree. Worse, believe it or not, if Schwarzenegger wins.
Why, you say?
If you want to get rid of RINOs, support Toomey to beat Arlen Specter.
You've answered the question here. There won't be any non-left liberal Republicans to vote for after a Schwarzenegger victory.
I'd rather have incompetent Bustamante than Schwarzenegger. Cruz can't do anything worse than Davis and there is the added bonus that he is hated in the CA Dem party and if he gains any power will really throw them in disarray.
Any benefit from a Schwarzenegger victory would be grealty outweighed by the danage to the Republican party.
I answered your question clearly.
I wrote: "probably wouldn't happen" in answer to your question.
Now answer mine. How can you support someone who was so against impeachment of Clinton?
But Schwarzenegger is against 54.
Art Toomey's won't even be in positions to challeng Arlen Spector's after Schwarzenegger wins.
Utter BS - find the most conservative primary candidate for US Senate and get behind him or her. Put them up there.
I think what tallhappy is trying to say (and I agree with him) is that the Republicans are once again moving away from conservatives.
I'll make a prediction that any conservative Republican in a primary here will be branded as "too conservative and someone who can't win in California." The same tactics used here to get voters to swing to Arnold's camp even though they want Tom (Bustaboogeyman, "he can't win", "he's cross-eyed", "he's in league with the RATs", "he's a policy wonk LIKE GORE" (putting Tom and Gore in the same class???!!), and even "he's in collusion with the RATs to throw the election") will be ramped up to high gear again.
One only needs to look at the continued attacks on Tom here on FR by some even after Arnold is well ahead in the polls as an indication. Those posts aren't about this race anymore. Look at the number of posts that state, "his career is over in politics" even though he's a good conservative. Evidently, he's too conservative for some of the people here. There are posts by some talking about the "New Republican Party" and "cleansing of the Party of the intolerant people who want Tom as their governor." Geez, I'm intolerant to some folks here because I want a good conservative as Governor? Only to a liberal in my mind.
We are in the position now of being offered an ultra-left candidate Busty, or a left candidate who states he wants to lure business back in the state to generate revenue to pay for social programs. I can hear businessmen screaming, "No thanks!" now.
It's often said that California is a harbinger of things to come, I think is tallhappy's point.

Arnie's top advisors say:

"HOLD YOUR HORSES-- WE'RE GET THE PUBLIC USED TO SAYING THAT IN A YEAR OR SO"
"VIVA SOCIALISM!"
yah, right...
