Your "just suck it up" stance is the same puritanical mindset that has led to this insane "war on drugs," which is actually a war against people in pain.

DELUSION ALERT!!

Saying every druggie is someone "in pain" is like saying every theif is someone "in poverty". You don't fix the problem by legalizing the crime.

I agree with you. Rush is nobody's fool. I would think that his antennae would be in the up position at all times on the lookout for someone looking to screw him. As John Scott, on Fox, said this morning, meeting this maid in a gas station seems way off the charts. For crying out loud she worked in his home!

Again, no one is interested in the football story, and he knows it.

I'm not inteested in ANY football story. I would not even go to a game unless you paid me. The price is $5,000. I'd want to sit on the sidelines with Morgan Fairchild.

The goal of political discussion is to persuade

That might be YOUR goal... but it is not mine.

My goal in political discussion is to find out what other people are thinking, not necessarily to pursuade them of anything. In fact, most attempts to pursuade are met with increased resistance. And many times what someone else is thinking might be a good idea. And sometimes I will change my mind based on what someone else is saying, but I never go about TRYING to change peoples positions.

If anyone is so sensitive that they cannot deal with the occasional namecalling, they might need to examine their own maturity level in comparison with their own sense intellectual superiority.

The more I know... the more I know that I dont know.

For example, I believed the Enquirer when it reported about Monica's blue dress and Jesse's love child and guess what? The reports were right on.

The Enquire didn't break the Monica Story .. it was Drudge

"remember that he has a genetic kidney problem he has mentioned once or twice? As I recall it causes pain sometimes. very likely he does have a prescription for some painkillers.

Anyone remember that? "pyelitic cyst" or something like that?

Terriergal, you mentioned this in another posting and I do not recall Rush ever talking about having a genetic kidney problem.

There was talk that maybe his hearing loss was genetic, but that turned out not to be the case either.

If I recall his hearing loss was from some kind of viral infection that was left untreated for to long.

You are right about one thing our culture has changed. The Nanny state has undermined freedom and responsibility. My solution is to have more freedom and responsibility not continue and expand the nanny state.

Here's another point most libertines seem to dense to get. If you legalize drugs but keep the nanny state, you'll destroy more freedom than you create. Now getting addicted and becoming a public charge will he officially sanctioned by the government.

If you libertines are so concerned about freedom, why don't you wait until AFTER the nanny state is abolished before legalizing drugs?

Drug use continued at minimal levels until our culture went to hell the late 1960's and 1970's

Your above statment is a perfect way to produce steam from a pro-drug Libertarians ears and have them automatically knee jerkingly say, "that does not compute".

That and mention the devastation opium did to 19th century China.

That's possible .. the only reason why I would question it is that it's being reported that Rush didn't know about this

Maybe Rush really does need codeine for chronic pain. I have a cracked vertebrae and I have occasionally needed some powerful painkillers (for the last ten years).

His chronic pain may not be physical. Opiates are very beneficial for many people in emotional or psychic pain. In a sense, of course, I suppose that could be considered a physical condition, since it is related to the opiate receptors in the brain and their lack of proper functioning.

Some people with depression or anxiety problems can benefit immensely from opiates, because their brains need supplementation to make up for something that is not working right. It is no different from applying lotion to fix dry skin, or installing a cast to fix a broken leg. Injesting opiates can fix something that is wrong with another body part -- the brain.

As far as I know, Rush is alleged to have taken hydrocodone and oxycodone, not codeine. I may have missed the complete list of alleged drugs, however.

Maybe it's a "reverse sting" and Rush "set the housekeeper up".............. totally kidding, who knows, I'm getting the feeling that there is no truth to this, and he and Roy Black will be doin some "cleaning" of their own. I think it's a case of "I will not dignify this with a response".

"Then he should have gotten a prescription"

That's what I am saying. Maybe he can get it legally anytime he wants. Like I can.

You're right, getting loaded on opiates is better than finding an effective SSRI that's targetted at fixing the problem.

I lurked here long before I registered during the Gore election nightmare. I love this site. There are differences in opinions but lately it's been over the top on some threads. I have noticed a big change, more so, in the past few months. I wonder what is going on here sometimes.

Let's see how many names have used so far: "dense" "libertine" "idiotic." I think that this approach speaks volumes about the strength of your case.
