I agree with you. Many of the comments on this thread are heartless. Many people here are making judgements without having facts. I remember better days here as well. It's disappointing to say the least.

Anything he says can and will be used against him, especially in the courtroom of the public. Discussing it at length where the media can get their slimy hands on the subject seems like a stupid idea.

Just my opinion, but I've been a listener for 11 years. Rush said, "Trust me". He sounds good, sounds positive. I'll trust him and stand by him 100%. I think it's all crap.

He may not know yet whether this investigation ensnared him legitimately (the pharmacist who was arrested may have been the one filling prescriptions for him). Or if the maid, her husband and all the dem ties have phoney-ed up stuff. Each would have a different response.

I was anticipating Rush coming on and announcing he's on his way to rehab. My mind is completely changed. I don't think he'd tell his 20 million listeners "trust me" and then confess an addiction.

I have no idea the extent of his involvement, but he has, in his own words basically implicated himself by not stating "I am innocent of any allegations of illegal drug use".

If he admits he has or had a problem, which I have no doubt he will once he knows what the charges against hime are, and he checks into rehab and takes like a man whatever slap on the wrist a judge gives him, none of his moral authority will be eroded. We're all sinners, after all.

Amen. The division here makes me sick at heart. Our discord at an opening salvo like this must make liberals smile. This isn't simply an attack on Rush, it is an attack on US! And its a fifth column attack on Constitutional America. Don't think for a second that we are not linked to these events.

" I don't think he'd tell his 20 million listeners "trust me" and then confess an addiction."

Then you don't know about addicts well enough.

if someone makes an allegation that you are buying illegal drugs

He hasn't been charged with anything yet. And, based on what we know right now, the charge would not be "buying illegal drugs", but rather buying prescription drugs illegally.

Rush will prevail in this issue. I cannot believe the number of people here that automatically charge him guilty.

We'll that statement is as strange as saying he is guilty.

I have only stated that all the red flags are there and if he was innocent of these allegations, why not just say so?????

His attorney would simple ask Rush if he is innocent of these allegations of illegal drug use. If he stated yes, his attorney would tell him to go ahead and tell the world, "I am innocent of these allegations of illegal drug use".

No attorney in the world would *not* give his client this advice, *unless* there was some evidence, or if Rush told his attorney something to the effect, "Well, there may have been a little"..........

There are some defenses you do if your innoncent and some you do if your guilty. What type is this?

What's it to you? Whether he's guilty or innocent, why can't you wait? Why does Rush have to live up to your expectations and pronounce his mea culpas from the rooftop exactly in a way that you demand?

Maybe he's a guilty as sin and just doesn't want to talk about it. Maybe he was set up and there is only 10% truth with 90% exaggeration. Why talk about the 90%? That means anyone can say anything at any time and he must then spend 3 hours a day anwering charges.

Is that what you want him to do?

So is the seriousness of the charge more important to you than the truth itself?

You are gonna have egg all over your face along with many others on this site who are so quick to believe unfounded accusations against Rush. Your lack of fairness (along with others here) is stunning. Oh, but not surprising.

And by the way....the charges are in the media ONLY. They are NOT official charges, are they?

Nope and that makes it even easier for him to deny them.

Your "denial", in your case, did not come during a police investigation, did it??

Nope. It was in response to media charges, just like what Rush is facing now. Obviously, you're convinced that Rush is completely innocent of any of this. Fine. I'm not. We'll see who is right sometime in the future.

"As to the taxpayers, you are right, they pay through the nose *right now* to maintain the largest prison population in the world."

Yes - and crime is down. Do you think that if drugs were legal that all drug crime would go away? The answer is that it would not. Most people are not in jail because they were convicted because they were busted with drugs, but becuse they were busted doing something to GET MORE DRUGS, ie: mug someone to get $$, steal something to sell it, etc.. - all to get more drugs.

I hope this works out and Rush is cleared - but so far no denial about drug use from him - and if the situation was reversed, and Bill Clinton was busted by the Enquirer like this, Rush would be all over him.

But one thing is certain- Rush's comments about McNabb were just plain dumb. For as smart a guy as Rush is, he should have known not to make the comment he made. Not just because it involved race, but because it was a stupid comment. There are lots of African-American quarterbacks in the NFL and college football. Some are really good most of the time, some are good some of the time, just like white quarterbacks. His comments were just dumb, dumb, dumb!

Is that an opinion or a subjective attitude? Why does this expression have to be anything at all, especially the most common mistake? Assertion of an opinion as fact might be common, but hearing an opinion as a fact is equally common.

Sorry, you'll have to be more clear if you wish for others to understand. As it stands, this is indecipherable.

Jeez- too bad you don't believe in waiting for the facts before rushing to judgement.

I said there is a good chance he is those things. I didn’t say the allegations were true, but I noted his ongoing non-denial and formed my own opinion based on that.

Thanks for asking, sissy.

Maybe Rush really does need codeine for chronic pain. I have a cracked vertebrae and I have occasionally needed some powerful painkillers (for the last ten years).

He's not denying torching the Hindenburg, either...

Doesn't have to. Everyone knows that's Bush's fault. :)

It will also be interesting to see if *his* support for the WOD changes if he is guilty. To be consistent, if he still supports it and is guilty, perhaps he should plead guilty and do the time. That I would respect.

Supporters of the WOD are guilty of great crimes against their neighbors.

A true believing drug warrior who applies the drug laws to himself after he is caught deserves no respect. For that matter, a drug warrior who turns himself in deserves no respect.

A drug warrior deserves respect only after he repents to his victims for his crimes and promises to commit no further crimes.

The odds are probably about 1000 to 1 that Rush's blatant hypocrisy will provoke an epiphany that will lead him to realize that he is criminal supporter of the WOD. It is such a sure thing, that I doubt any off-shore internet casino would dare take action on such a proposition. But, if an internet casino offered such a listing and you bet on it, then watch out--Ashcroft and Bill Bennet will be on your ass next!

But,if Rush has been in contact with this woman, the past year, while she was a cooperating witness in a drug investigation( which is apparently a joint state and federal task force )he could be in serious legal jeopardy.

If drug users go into rehab, all any judge will give them is a slap on the wrist. A 30 some odd hours of community service, a few months probation, that's about it. The only way in which Rush could get into serious jeopardy is if he were involved in dealing, which I seriously doubt.

I am confident Rush will take whatever punishment is given him like a man.

Does anyone remember when Brett Favre became addicted to pain killers? He made the admission and got help. He is a high-profile figure who was seen as a real All-American guy.

Yes, I do remember Favre's addiction to Vicidin (I'm from Green Bay). Even though he made the admission and got help, people were vicious--still are--about it.

Perfectly stated. A lot of Rush's critics seem to be delighted at the opportunity to start bait threads for the innocents.

Rush didn't look comfortable at ESPN to begin with, and he was probably glad to have a reason to bail out. They hired him because he is controversial and an agent provacateur and couldn't cope with their own decision. Their loss.

There are SO many inconcistencies in the stories coming out of Florida that he is wise to avoid commenting until he knows specifically what the allegations are. Right now, not even the authorities seem to know---except to say that they have no intention of arresting or prosecuting him. But for what?

Finally, it's crap for people to talk about him getting all lawyered up---for chrissakes, he comes from a family of lawyers. He's been all "lawyered up" since birth. Duh.
