To say he doesn't know what he's dealing with is not being truthful.

There is a police investigation reportedly going on. According to Rush, he has not been contacted by any authorities. So he does not know what he's dealing with right now. Until he does know whether there really is an official investigation and what it entails, he would be foolish to say anything at all.

"Wildest Dreams will be answered"? That means to me that this is a set up--a hit from the left.

The Maid is connected to the drug dealer.

The drug dealer is connected to the Pharmacy.

Yes, it's wrong, but it is also true. And nothing tempts a prosecutor more than a high profile celebrity.

There a valid reasons for Rush to say nothing, until the scope of the investigation is made absolutely clear to his lawyer.

This could be nothing more than his former maid and this dealer/pharmacist refilling his legal prescriptions without his knowledge and selling them on the black market.

No one has explored the possibility this has become a blackmail investigation...

That was what I was starting to think of too. The hiring of Roy Black takes an edge of that angle, but still it is interesting. And, hey, blackmail is a crime, so a criminal defense attorney might not be the worse person to have in your corner.

With Rush's medical problems, I wouldn't be surprised.

Does anyone remember when Brett Favre became addicted to pain killers? He made the admission and got help. He is a high-profile figure who was seen as a real All-American guy.

Hey, chronic pain is real. Chronic pain in the inner ear (where he had his medical problems) is especially bad. If he is or was mis-using or abusing pain medication, I wouldn't pile on top of him. I would feel sorry for him.

He hasn't been charged.
He hasn't been tried.
He hasn't been convicted.
He hasn't been sentenced.

The discussion about the war on drugs focuses around these issues (charging protocols, evidentiary protocols, sentencing guidelines, etc.).

So, the discussions about the validity of the war on drugs are laugable for this thread. Not that it isn't an important debate/discussion, but it simply isn't appropriate to connect Rush's situation (which, at this point, is purely speculation) to the war on drugs.

Look, if someone makes an allegation that you are buying illegal drugs, and you are *completely* innocent, why not just say, "it never happened, I am not involved, or, this is not true".

Because the real world isn't as nice as your world is.

Huh? LOL!

This has got to be one of the most common mistakes in modern discourse.

Is that an opinion or a subjective attitude? Why does this expression have to be anything at all, especially the most common mistake? Assertion of an opinion as fact might be common, but hearing an opinion as a fact is equally common.

Your words above. You are asking Rush to tell you something that is none of your business.

I’m noting that that is the question on the table. Do you deny that that is the question on the table? I was curious to hear his answer. He didn’t provide it and I noted that.

Still nothing in there about any demands. Is the guy yelling “Freebird!” at a Lynrd Skynrd concert also making inappropriate “demands” of a performer?

If you hate Rush, just say so and get on with your life.

You need to find yourself a hobby instead of just making things up about people you don’t know.

I think Rush is a decent fellow. Good chance that he is also a criminal and drug abuser, but that don’t make him a bad guy. A bit of a hypocrit, of course, but not a bad guy.

I wish him well.

I have no idea the extent of his involvement, but he has, in his own words basically implicated himself by not stating "I am innocent of any allegations of illegal drug use". Simple as that.....

That's ridiculous. He is handling this responsibly. Personally, I appreciate that Rush hasn't immediately run to the microphone claiming to be a victim. This thing will just have to run its course. The truth will come out.

Also, if he claims innocence, he is also calling the maid a liar on a national radio show. He would just be criticized further for using his power to try and destroy his accuser. Unlike Linda Tripp, the media would have sympathy for the maid.

Your response to my post against the use of the word "Hitlery" epitomizes the reason many smart people avoid Free Republic, Democratic Underground and similar forums. "Hitlery" and "Shrub" and other like-minded names are like big, blinking signals that say: "This is not a place where intelligent and reasoned debate takes place."

That's not entirely the case, of course, because intelligent debate does take place here. And there are many bright people here. But this is the case despite stuff such as "Hitlery" and "The Pig," certainly not because of it.

The goal of political discussion is to persuade others that one is right, and to get them on one's side. Words like "Hitlery" and "Shrub" do not help persuade or move others to one's side; in fact, they can only solidify an opponent's stance. They show the very people you're trying to sway that you are not to be taken seriously.

...it is POSSIBLE that Rush may have been 'involved' in SOME way in this entire situation, but not 'criminally'

EXACTLY!!! All that's been done thus far is "alleged guilt by association." And now the liberal "same people who set the speech codes" are able to imply that "Rush is a drug addict," based on accusations by somebody who accepted money for her story from the National Enquirer. It's given them another talking point. The purpose is to CAUSE DAMAGE because most of their minions won't even see the fine print retraction, if and when it occurs.

Saying ANYTHING now gives them "quotes" to distort. (Just look what Dowd et. al. have done with the President's State of the Union speech!)

"The issue is simple. If one is innocent of any wrong doing, one just stands up and says, "I am innocent of these allegations of illegal drug use".

" Period....."

"I did not have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinski"....... Billy Boy Clinton.

Yea, right!

The only thing "simple" here, is you.

We'll not really. There are many simpletons here.

Period......

" You don't hire a top-notch slick lawyer and avoid even the simplest denial of drug-taking. Rush has problems right now - legally and morally. I'm not saying throw him under the bus, but let's not join him in his denial. Also try not to flame me or others here who like Rush but believe there are some hard truths that we don't like."

According to MSNBC and the Palm Beach Post, the probe has been ongoing for a long time. The maid went to the cops,"late last year." If Rush has been clean and sober and beyond reproach for the last year-he should be in good shape. But,if Rush has been in contact with this woman, the past year, while she was a cooperating witness in a drug investigation( which is apparently a joint state and federal task force )he could be in serious legal jeopardy. I guarantee that Rush's lawyers and his legal friends are not as sanguine about the outcome,as so many here are.

Jeez- too bad you don't believe in waiting for the facts before rushing to judgement. Or do you automatically believe everything reported by the National Enquirer?
