This entire controversy would be moot if the American people threw the socialist nanny-state busybodies, whether they call themselves 'liberals' or 'conservatives', out on their lard-*sses into the street.

The government has no business in forbidding 'drugs' to citizens. If you believe otherwise, you're a socialist, plain and simple.

Go, Rush, and eff 'em all!

I agree except for the last line. Rush has been a strong supporter of the WOD. By your definition Rush is a Socialist. Rush is either innocent and wrongly accused or guilty. If he is guilty he is also a loud obnoxious hypocrit, like fellow moralist/conservative Bill Bennett. If he's guilty I hope they give him the legal maximum to make an example of him. This might finally get a lot of Conservative/Socialists to start questioning their pre-conceptions.

It will also be interesting to see if *his* support for the WOD changes if he is guilty. To be consistent, if he still supports it and is guilty, perhaps he should plead guilty and do the time. That I would respect.

Has anyone else noticed that these stories that are coming out about Rush and Arnold are NOT RECENT history (ie within the past 6 months)...I am more disturbed by the inability of our press to print the news when it occurs - ok, so say Rush had a problem 2 years ago - WHY not publish it then? I think this is all rooted in Democratic hatred of anything remotely conservative...Think again about all the news reports this week and what got the LEAST exposure? That Hamas terrorist who contributed to Hillary Clinton's senate campaign, or the blurb out of Kuwait on the 60 million WMDs that came in from Iraq? HELLO, why aren't these things getting more attention?

I dislike the Clintons as much as anyone here, but using terms like "Hitlery" is a bad move.

"Will tell all, maybe more than we want to know."

When he said this I somehow didn't get the impression that he was talking about himself when he said "There may be more to it than you want to know."

He is going to post his statement on his web site, so I am going to read it again to see exactly how this was said.

In my opinion (that's all it is), Rush is or was addicted to drugs. Not that I beleive every detail of the NE story - heck, a lot of it is likely untrue. And clearly he is getting the smear treatment. But all that said, he clearly is involved in an investigation. You don't hire a top-notch slick lawyer and avoid even the simplest denial of drug-taking. Rush has problems right now - legally and morally. I'm not saying throw him under the bus, but let's not join him in his denial. Also try not to flame me or others here who like Rush but believe there are some hard truths that we don't like.

People with chronic pain can get painkillers legally, via a prescription, so this is a non-issue.

Anyone who injests drugs does it to relieve pain. It might not be the kind of pain with which you're personally familiar -- an aching elbow, for instance -- but it is pain nonetheless.

The word "legally" is just the way you and society describe the method you've devised to dole out the collections of molecules that relieve pain. People in pain take drugs to relieve pain, whether the drugs are "legal" or not.

He starts off the second hour repeating he doesn't know what he's dealing with regarding the drug story. He says when he knows exactly what he's dealing with he'll "come clean" as he always has.

Now over 35,000 emails received.

He says "Be patient, it probably will not be long" before he can speak about it.

Stoping the use of painkillers can cause chronic pain.

Only temporarily if the condition ultimately responsible for the pain is alleviated. If the condition is not alleviated, then they can legally continue taking the pain killers indefinitely.

In the case of a temporary condition, the withdrawal symptoms can be minimized by gradually reducing the dosage over a period of time.

I've had family members that had to take pain killers after surgery. They had a couple unpleasant weeks as they were being weened off the meds, and then they were fine.

"This drug story that's all over the news...it's still unfolding...I'll tell you everything I know and will come clean when I get all the facts and details, you can trust me and believe me on that as you've always been able to do. I won't answer any questions until I know exactly what I'm dealing with... I cannot tell you how much all the support I'm getting means to me and my family and all of us here at the EIB family...Be patient, it probably will not be long."

I liked that last sentence...

You have to be kidding.

Folks take drugs to get high too. I know myself and 100s of teenaged friends and college mates did.

Folks start out maybe taking some dope for chronic pain and then the high outweighs the pain and hence the enormous quantities and then you reach the point where if you don't take the dope, you get quite sick.

If Rush's alleged problem was pain then why didn't he go to a pain doctor and get a fentanyl patch like most normal folks. At his alleged levels, it would have to be about getting buzzed, not pain at that point.

Would be easy to say "I never purchased drugs from that woman" if it's true.

It would hard to say if you had... legitimately.

No one knows the full story yet but I would bet a flat-out denial is not 100% true because he had to take pain killers due to his surgery... and she may have picked some up for him.

In this situation, he's dealing with it right... you don't give your enemies more ammunition. Find out their full story and then stuff them.

Doesn't work that way for public figures, or defendants in high profile cases. They can deny everything, in person or through their attorney. If your worried about saying too much, you just issue a one line denial and take no questions until the trial or indictment.

But, Rush also has a radio show, and dragging his feet might keep him in the limelight. A denial would be enough for some new listeners to tune out. You can't say, "my publicist advised me not to comment". He's setting things up for a big, public, explanation, where he will probably deny everything illegal, mention that he took painkillers after surgery, maybe that it got out of hand for a little while, and then go on to talk about how the media targeted him because he's conservative. Then he rallies his supporters. Rush is still an entertainer. The only thing worse than lawyers is the media.

Rush is talking about it again. He doesn't know what he is dealing with here and when he gets all the information he said; "I will come clean as I always have." "But now I do not know what all I am dealing with so I don't want to discuss it now."

Self medication leads to worse pain, always.

It covers up some symptoms and does not cure or fix anything. Then you get hooked, and no amount you can get is enough.

Why do you ADVOCATE damn drug addiction?!

Has anyone else noticed

Its almost like they hold onto the news until either

a. Someone they support fixes the problem

or

b. Someone they detest appears vulnerable
