WASHINGTON (Reuters) - CIA adviser David Kay, who is coordinating the hunt for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq briefed U.S. lawmakers on Thursday with an interim progress report.
Kay separately briefed the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate intelligence committees behind closed doors in what lawmakers called a highly classified session from which they emerged tight-lipped.
Kay was not expected to produce any solid evidence that chemical or biological weapons had been found, sources have said previously.
The United States went to war against Iraq in March and ousted Saddam Hussein from power in April, largely citing the threat posed by Baghdad's biological and chemical weapons programs and a program to develop nuclear weapons.
But critics have questioned whether the Bush administration exaggerated the threat to get support for the war because no such weapons have been found since U.S. forces invaded Iraq.
Others have urged patience, saying that Iraq is a large country and such weapons are relatively easy to hide.
Last month, the CIA said Kay would present an interim report that would reach no firm conclusions.
When Kay briefed lawmakers in July, he said there could be "surprises" uncovered, but congressional sources have said they were unaware of any major surprises.

Maybe we should all just declare a collective "Oops!". Would that make you feel any better? What's done is done, you need to get over it and move on with your life.
P.S. Some of us never cared if there were any WMD anyways. That viper pit (Iraq) needed a good cleaning for a decade. We (the USA) were just procastinating as usual.

I'm wasted my time aruging with someone who hasn't quite caught up to the realities of 2003. That's just my point: you're arguing with someone who is still caught up in the reality of 1863.

You have yet to respond to the simple fact that all nations in the world that have intelligence agencies agreed Iraq had WMD.
You have yet to respond to the fact that all nations on the UN Security Council agreed UNANIMOUSLY over and over about the WMD that Iraq had and detailed in exquisite detail what quantities those weapons constituted.
You keep making snide comments and don't have a shred of good sense. The fact that something hasn't been found does not prove they didn't / don't exist.
But, of course, you know that and are just contrarian by nature. And ignorant by design.

Now would these be the intelligence agencies that stated WMDs were no longer there What agency said that?
And what's the answer to my previous question? For somebody who wants to sound like he knows what he's talking about you are remarkably evasive on a central question: WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY HAD RECENTLY INCLUDING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS AND PRODUCTION CAPABILITY? NOTHING AT ALL?
Another central question which you don't seem to want to say is: What exactly was the reason for the Bush administration - Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell etc. to create this big lie? What was the REAL motive? Benefiting Halliburton?

Where have the ties between Iraq and al Qaeda been exquisitely detailed? I haven't even heard that from the Bush administration. Yes, there are al Qaeda in Iraq now, as well as jihadis from all over the world, but I hadn't heard a clear link that they were there before the world. Even George Bush said we have no evidence of a link between Saddam and 9/11. Thanks.

The article doesn't say the briefing to Congress was secret, only the briefings to the House and Senate intelligence committees. I don't think there's anything stopping members of Congress who were briefed from talking to the press, unless they were in the closed door briefings.

I tell you what. You keep it up for us both okay? I did not agree with the war on Iraq, it did not meet even the base standards for sending this nation of states to war. You play the good 'patriot' and keep supporting a President whose advised by men who praise FDR and Woodrow Wilson as good leaders.
Plain simple fact. No WMDs have been found. No weapons 'programs' have been found.

Better watch out, dude. They're gonna hit you with the BIG arguments. My personal favorite is where they say "but Bill Clinton said they had WMD!" The irony of the Bush-bots invoking Clinton to establish Dubya's veracity is just too delicious.

Not meaning to say I told ya so.. but if you look at my previous post a couple days ago.. I TOLD you this would be behind closed doors. (OK.. so I am saying I TOLD YA SO). The Media seemed to think this was going to be some kind of FINAL report. What bafoons!!
After 8 long years of all but having our intelligence gathering capabilities decimated, there is a lot going on behind the scenes with regard to "new capabilities" in intelligence gathering. Two years is a program in its "infancy" when looking at setting up "moles" and people to infiltrate. In Iraq it may not take that long, because we have Scientist who have "NO COUNTRY" any longer. Who are in custody..and only need time for the swelling to go down.
We ARE going to know more.. but we need some time. I bet we know a lot more in the next 6-9 months. I have a gut feeling about this.

"President Bush said Wednesday there was no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 -- disputing an idea held by many Americans." (CNN.com, 09/17/2003) I guess Gee Dubya is wilfully disregarding the facts too.
