I don't disagree. I simply maintain that the various elements in the (Democrat) mix still fall within the 2 categories, at least to a very large degree. Hopefully there are plenty of Democratic voters who are skeptical of the Democrats, just as there are many who vote Republican, but are skeptical of that party.

I would add that many causes, such as "civil rights," environmentalism, "anti war," etc. are adopted by the Left for use as a lever, not because they necessarily believe in them.

From the seemingly innocuous "tax cut for the rich" (classic Marxism) rhetoric to their political campaigns which blatantly portray business as public enemy number one, yes, I would say that the goal, in the mind of the elitists certainly, would never be admitted to as being Communism, but the potential result makes the difference academic.

I also believe that our economic system is more fragile than some seem to think, and that there is no recognition whatsoever by unwitting Democrats that their support for the party is putting the system in danger.

My dad worked for the Democrats too. And he was neither a leftist nor a follower of them. But that was when a major segment of the party was "conservative."

That's a very complex question and if I am not careful in answering I will only cause confusion. The term "Leftists" has many meanings to me. I consider moral liberality to be more leftist than fiscal liberality and there are large groups of both in the Democratic party. I know there are actually Democrats that seem to want to become communist. This should be no surprise since we live in a country with people that want to catch aids "bug chasers".

But those are extremes.

We are already very very socialistic in this country. Socializing all medical care may be a next goal on the socialistic agenda and it would certainly be the Democrats that are more likely to push that. So yes I guess I have to agree with you.

Your welcome. It's not a can of worms. Conservatives are divided into 2 camps with people being one or the other or both. Fiscal conservatives are in favor of capitalism as opposed to socialism and all the many things that those two ideas represent. There are many conservatives who are just that and could care less about who is sleeping with whom or who is doing what to their unborn babies. Those of us who are conservative on moral/social issues are quite concerned about the latter.

I suppose that since egalitarianism is one of the foundations of leftist philosophy, that the fiscal end of it is pretty basic to socialism, as you point out.

As for the "morality" part of the equation I wonder if the morality issues are inherently leftist at all, or are they more things that the Left is attempting to foist on us in an attempt to degrade our system. I say that in spite of some libertarian leanings on my part. Or at least "classical liberal" leanings.
