Point's well taken but people with perforated foreheads seldom shoot back, and if their friends didn't even hear the shot? I'd think the psychological effect of a silent kill at 100 meters on everybody around the target would be substantial.

Ask the Palestinian rock chukers and you'd believe the Israelis have been using suppressed Ruger 1022's for some time now. The Israeli don't try to hide the fact. Usually, the shots are designed to hurt but not kill, causing the chukers to withdraw to cover and take care of their bleeding comrade chuker.

Oops! I missed your post while I was blathering. Nice link. My son has a class III license, so I've fired several suppressed weapons. My fav is the MP5K in 9mm, suppressed. A real lead spitter!

I'll bet that my scoped 10-22T (beautiful laminated stock) with sub sonic rounds would do well in this role.

The Israelis think so. Though their stocks are likely not as pretty as yours.

Can I buy one of these silenced carbines in North Carolina? I want to take out a few deer that are eating our floral and vegetable gardens.

A .22 is a bit light for deer, but it can be done. THere's also a very nice modern recreation of the .45 caliber bolt-action silenced *DeLisle carbine* of WWII, thought by many special operators to be one of the best and most practical silenced weapons ever produced.

Or alternately, one of your .308s could be reworked to either accept an add-on suppressor or a full-time suppressed barrel.

Why don't you get in touch with a Title II weapons dealer from your state, and see what he has in stock and at what price ranges. Hey, maybe he's had pesky deer in his garden, too.

There are several really good .22's available at reasonable prices which are extremely accurate.

BRNO makes a little bolt action which often shoots like a house on fire. I have owned three. Two were Egyptian and the other had Czech markings, (actually the Egyptian ones also had Czech markings in addition to the Arabic writing) The Egyptians eventually began producing it locally and it is available at really cheap prices although not as finely made as the Czech ones.

One of mine would shoot consistent one hole groups at roughly 25 yards. The others were nearly as good.

Some of the old Remington and Winchester bolt action .22's also shoot great. My Brother has an old Remington 513 scoremaster which originally was my Fathers. Daddy used to do trick shooting with it. One thing would be to put a nail in a tree and get back about 20 feet and drive it in. This was with open sights.

I don't even think a scope is necessary for the type shooting mentioned in this article. A good receiver sight is easy to hit with at .22 ranges.

The really cheap Marlin model 60 automatics almost always outshoot the more expensive Ruger 10/22's, unless you customize the Ruger with target barrels etc.

I managed to work up a lightened slide return spring for an Astra Cub modelo 2000 that would work with .22 short CB caps. It doesn't take much of a suppressor to quiet them down, either.

Rather than a 10-22, I went with a Remington Nylon 66, as dis Mitch Werbell when developing a MAC suppressed .22 rifle for a particularly interesting military application. Very neat, and particularly reliable, and with 15 shots available instead of the Ruger's 10-shot box magazine.
