But when it was put to a vote, the people hadn't really moved that far from their personal posistions. That takes time. So the vote went for Barabas over Jesus.
This is an apt example and I will answer your challenge. Jesus had a large following, the apex of which was when He triumphantly entered Jerusalem. However, He was a threat to the political powers of Israel. You see, it wasn't that they liked Rome, it was that Rome allowed them to rule so as to keep the peace. If Jesus stirred up trouble, Rome could come and do away with the self-rule (and them personally). It was the chief priests and the pharisees who put Jesus on trial and handed Him over to Roman authority. It was their followers who called for Barrabas.
This is important... they made a political calculation to cut Jesus loose to save their own skins.
