IRS has absolutely no business sharing any information on any citizen to any other agencies.

I might further add that if we have FLAT TAX, IRS would not be even be needed at all.

I agree. Right now, my passport needs renewing. On the back of the form it states explicitly that all info provided on the application will be provided to the IRS. I don't live in the States. I need my passport. I find this sort of thing worrying.

Ah, but that's not true -- as long as you have a tax based on income, the IRS will be needed to make sure all income is reported and taxes duly paid. This is true for progressive or flat income taxes.

The personal privacy issue is the main reason (among others) why I am a national retail sales tax supporter -- on an NRST, there is no information that needs to be collected about my income, because the tax is not based on income.
