Rifle was used in fully auto mode - my guess is that killer converted it. Type of weapon used is relevant because Dep. Sorensen was a dead man as soon as he came under fire - there's no way standard body armor will stop a .223. I guess it showed killer's intent here was to kill - not to protect, defend, or any other b.s. excuse that his family might make up for him.

The guy was an ex-con, so was prohibited to have any guns at all in the first place. What do you propose, taking away anything as powerful or more powerful than .223s from all citizens?
