Physicists have created blobs of gaseous plasma . . . OMG, they've cloned Jerald Nadler!

Arghhhh! . . . Whilst I was polishing mine up, 'ya beat me to the punch!

The researchers studied environmental conditions similar to those that existed on the Earth before life began, when the planet was enveloped in electric storms that caused ionised gases called plasmas to form in the atmosphere. How do they know this? This is a supposition...they were not there, and there is no evidence to substatiate this claim today.

We need to revisit the philosophy that caused this science to be done. What are we looking for? What is the question? Whom are we asking? Are we amused by soap bubbles?

Interesting
To: bedolido
Physicists have created blobs of gaseous plasma that can grow, replicate and communicate... Their first communication was to sue for defamation and hate speech over being called "blobs."

Why? The reason why is that we seem to not know what we are looking for, not to know what question we're asking, nor whom or what entity we're asking. We're not even clear about who or what "we" is.

Pat, do you want to ping the usual suspects?

Should read, "The researchers studied environmental conditions similar to those believed to have existed on the Earth before life began, when the planet was enveloped in electric storms that caused ionised gases called plasmas to form in the atmosphere.

It's life Jim, but not as we know it.
Interestingly enough, if you set the bar for the definition of life this low, you can observe life in the soap bubbles in your sink. They form cells, split and recombine. Maybe life started in my sink! I know new and unexplained forms of life have occasionally spontaneously emerged in my fridge.
