What did they do exactly? Did they rescind their rules, or rescind the rules vote by the Senate. Details please.

These were the rules that raised the cap for the percentage of stations a network owned station could run. There were no changes to the radio ownership rules except for some terrotirial adjustments and to my knowledge, the "fairness Doctrine was not included in this rescinding of the rules.

It now goes to the House. We'll see what happens over there.

Senate Votes to Block New Media Rules
By DAVID HO
ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate approved a resolution Tuesday to repeal media ownership rules that critics say could lead to a wave of mergers and ultimately stifle diversity and local viewpoints in news and entertainment.

Defying a White House veto threat, the Senate voted 55-40 to undo changes to Federal Communications Commission regulations governing ownership of newspapers and television and radio stations.

The good part about this is you have to have a two-thirds majority to overide a veto. This passed with only 55 out of 95. which is 57% so we'll see what happens.

I am really dense on this one. Isn't this what Rush was referring to the other day? Yesterday Kay Bailey Hutchinson was insisting to Sean that she would NEVER vote for anything that would bring back the Fairness Doctrine.

Guess I'll listen to what Rush has to say about this.

Anyone know who the Republicans were? I heard Kay Bailey Hutchison has denied support despite hearing that she did support it on Rush's show.

Defying a White House veto threat

While I'm a fan of the president, it is tough to threaten a veto when you have yet to use it.

I do not think the fairness doctrine is involved in this, although I may be mistaken. The issue is expanding media ownership from 35% of a given market to 45%.

If I recall, Lott wanted the 35%. However, Bush said he will veto the 35% rollback.

So I take it that Lott is happy. Bummer!

FOX said he was. If the "fairness" (socialist, i.e., Marxist propaganda) doctrine is still in there, he's a friggen traitor, that's for sure.
This is not communist China. When the government DEMANDS we listen to Marxist propaganda, we start to fly the Hammer and Sickle flag instead of the Stars and Stripes..
