Pardek, this one is a killer. I don't think y'all have that much to worry about up there. It will most probably wobble and come ashore between here, Charleston and Savannah or possibly the Charleston and the Outer Banks of NC.

You forgot one of the best: Jimmy Buffett's "Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season". Jimmy has quite a few songs dealing with storms in the tropics.

Artist/Band: Skaggs Ricky
Song: Heartbreak Hurricane
Album: Country Gentleman

I'm mighty quiet for thunder,
Shut the shutters on my car.
She had me eatin from her hand,
The first night in the dark.
I did not see the danger,
Not 'til she blew in,
'Til she left me shakin' like a dry leaf,
In a high lonesome wind.

Heartbreak hurricane.
She's gone but not forgotten,
Lord, I still call her name.
Despite the devastation,
Sweet memories remain,
In the wake of a heartbreak hurricane.

Instrumental break.

I know it may sound crazy,
But every now and then,
I have a yearning that someday,
She'll blow my way again
I know her name spells trouble,
And I know my heart's at stake,
For a chance to win her love,
It's a chance I'm glad to take.

Heartbreak hurricane,
She's gone but not forgotten,
Lord, I still call her name.
Despite the devastation,
Sweet memories remain,
In the wake of a heartbreak hurricane.

Despite the devastation,
Sweet memories remain,
In the wake of a heartbreak hurricane.

Hey stranger!!!!

What's the skinny in your neck of the woods? I'm not in Dover anymore, but still on the peninsula in Virginia. I live inland, but only about 15 miles from the Atlantic to the east and the Chesapeake to the west.

Friday afternoon some of the old-times were figuring that Chincoteague Island would probably get evactuated eventually, although most of them say they have no intentions of going anywhere.

TRYING TO REASON WITH THE HURRICANE SEASON Jimmy Buffett

Squalls out on the gulfstream,
Big storms coming soon.
I passed out in my hammock,
God, I slept way past noon.
Stood up and tried to focus,
I hoped I wouldn't have to look far.
I knew I could use a Bloody Mary,
So I stumbled next door to the bar.

Chorus
And now I must confess,
I could use some rest.
I can't run at this pace very long.
Yes, it's quite insane,
I think it hurts my brain.
But it cleans me out and then I can go on.

There's something about this Sunday
It's a most peculiar gray
Strolling down the avenue
That's known as A1A
I was feeling tired, then I got inspired.
And I knew that it wouldn't last long
So all alone I walked back home, sat on my beach
And then I made up this song.

Chorus
Well, the wind is blowin' harder now
Fifty knots of there abouts,
There's white caps on the ocean.
And I'm watching for water spouts
It's time to close the shutters
It's time to go inside.
In a week I'll be in gay Paris;
That's a mighty long airplane ride.

Chorus
Yes, I't cleans me out and then I can go on.

Yeah, I was in St. George. Kinda strange sitting in a brick house that creaks like an old boat!

But it was kinda neat looking out the window and literally watching the world go by....at 130 miles an hour!

Hey, long time 'eh. Well, the Racers might have a bit o surprise awaitin for them here in Dover. I can only imagine all the campers dismay as their tents get ravaged by the high winds. Next weekend is racetime at the "Downs".

As far as how things are goin", Not much has changed around here. Still no smoking indoors and Auntie Ruth is still running(ruining)the show.

The storm is looking at us and might run right up the Chesapeake Bay. Evacuate the homestead? Hmmm that's a tough one. Not many places to go to. I'm just above Leipsic and have a gully in the back yard. With the near full moon, tides are gonna be way up, so flooding is a concern as much as the winds. My Generator is full of gas and we have plenty of lanterns and food/water. We'll see what happens and plan accordingly. I am out of work so I can watch the weather and hit Lowes for tape and plywood.

How's the family, I'll bet that you're glad to be away from your last place of residence. Nice to hear from ya, btw!

Hey SamAdams, How about REO's Riding the Storm out, while not directly Hurricaine related, It's probably what I'll be doin' come thursday.

I had forgotten this is "race Week" - what an absolute mess that is going to be.

Sorry to hear you're not working - I know the feeling. I keep in touch with friends and read both the wilmington and Dover rags online everyday.

A generator is one of the items on our list, but the budget is not going to permit that until at least after the winter. We have a stream/gully/creek running the length of the north side of the property that twists and curves and connects with others all the way out to the Cesapeake, but with alll the bad rain and flooding we had a couple of days after labor day, we realized we're on a bit of a highspot as we had no problems at all - even though the town a mile south of us had very extensive flooding.

As to going anywhere - where would we go? Up to Dover to my SIL? Up 13 where everyone else from the lower shore is headed?

I may have Virginia plates on my vehicle now (with a tobacco leaf on them no less) but I still have my "Ban RuthAnn" and "Land of the Free except Delaware" bumper stickers on it!!!

I'll FReepmail you the next time I'm planning a trip to Dover and maybe we can get together.

Not sure what threda to best post this...but the Washington DC chapter needs to pay VERY close attention to Hurricane Isabel.

This could be the worst direct hurricane hit on the DC area in recorded history. The forecast models have been asztoundingly consistant...forecast tracks for the center of Isabel haven't deviated generally...the GFS and European (two of the main long range models I glance at when making a forecast...notice I say glance at...I rarely ever base a forecast completely on the computer models...we're not that good at modelling the weather yet...LOL) have been agreeing for two days now and are bringing the hurricane directly up the Chesapeake...an event that has happened only one other time in living memory...and that was with a category 2 hurricane...not the forecasted Category three intensity of Isabel upon arrival.

By the time it gets to the CHesapeake it will have begun to phase with the developing trough over the Great Lakes, meaning that unlike most hurricane hits where the worst of the weather is at and to the east of the center...this storm will have its worst weather at and slightly to the WEST of the cneter...if the recent projected path by NHC is accurate...that would bring 100+ mph wind gusts and 6-12 inches of rain right on top of DC.

PLEASE monitor this storm frequently and carefully if you live anywhere between Wilmington, NC and NYC..as it is, Cape Hatteras would also get a direct hit from Isabel on its way into DC...a slight deviation east or west will make a big difference where it makes landfall given the orientation of the coastline.

If you are asked to evacuate...please do as you're told. I've heard some rather cavalier attitudes here and elsewhere in my travels..the ones who get annoyed with the evacuations are the ones who end up dead when the big one comes. Get out if you're told to get out...even if the traffic is miserable...your chances for survival quadruple for every 10 miles you get further inland.

I live in Navy base housing in VA Beach and we're already making plans to head inland. My husband's been notified that they're going to be shoving most of the boats at nearby NAS Norfolk (including his, a fast attack submarine) out to sea within the next day or two. Here in VA Beach/Norfolk we're taking this pretty seriously.

(*almost wishes the damned storm would flatten that ugly ass PETA HQ over by NAS Norfolk* Oops did I say that? Silly me *S*)
