The Vietnam Party (McGovern Democrats=Political Self-Destruction?)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 9/9/03 | James Taranto

Edited on 04/23/2004 12:05:52 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

Presidential candidate John Kerry never misses an opportunity to remind America that he served in Vietnam; his service is supposed to prove that he is a patriot (which he no doubt is) as well as that he is prepared to offer leadership in national security (a dubious proposition). But while Kerry wears his Vietnam service with pride bordering on vanity, other Democrats talk endlessly about Vietnam also. For them, however, Vietnam is a symbol not of patriotism but of American failure--a failure they fear, or hope, the country is now repeating.

These quagmire and Viet Nam stabs are ludicrous! If Americans in the past had been so impatient we wouldn't even have a country or a free Germany or Japan.

Sickening.

Sorry, but can't resist saying this again... Where's Cheney? Frist? Hastert? Other top Republicans, calling the Dems onto the carpet on their lies? I find THAT even more despicable.

these people have answered the questions. Cheyney gave a speech to AEI and it answered everything. The Rummy report is on CSPAN all the time. The president came out and accused the Democrats of playing politics. And the british press, covering the Kelley death, discovered that Tony Blair's report was correct and the BBC lied.

The problem is that this stuff was not covered by our news.
Try FR, the national review, and warblogs like instaPundit or nicedoggie.com or even (gasp) little green footballs....to keep up on the news.

Harkin, earlier in his career, claimed to have been a Vietnam fighter pilot, which was exposed as a lie.

Kerry made a grand show in the early 70s of trashing his Vietnam earned medals...later proved to have been someone else's.

Yeah. These are sterling character models, alright.

I have always wondered why Kerry isn't just PUMMELED about the whole medal thing. I mean why should we have any respect for him as a "vet" when he supposedly rejected everything about the war. Didn't he forfeit ANY right to claim he's some kind of hero?

I don't find it more dispicable, but I sur efind it sickening. They are too worried about offending future voters to take a take a real, powerful stand.

Other top Republicans, calling the Dems onto the carpet on their lies?

They're covering their asses, like most poeple do. 'Cept they're supposed to CMA. That's the reason they get elected.

I've said it before....whadda'ya want?...Cancer(Pubs) or a heart attack(Dems)? The agenda is the same, just the MO is different.

Taranto has raised this point before, that the dems are becoming an extinct party. It's amazing, considering they've spent 6 trillion buying votes thru wasted social programs. But the truth is catching up with them. Probably won't happen in my lifetime, but I wonder what kind of party wil finally take their place?
One hopes that it will at least be one which defends and honors America...hugs all the trees they want, but draws the line at asking why the enemy is mad at us.
Any significant change would seem to depend on Generation Y being less gullible than their teachers.

Kerry was then as among those who contributed materially to America's disbelief in itself and what's right as he is now.

There is a time to wait.

It is not that Bush cannot respond. He is choosing not to respond.

The one thing you do not want to do if you are Bush is make Howard Dean bigger than he already is. It does Bush no good if Dean is able to lock up the nomination too early without being bled. Elevating Dean by having all your people go after the Deanster serves no purpose.

Waiting until Dean has let it all hang out, then hammering him in the spring with commercial after commercial, driving up his negatives, now that is the acme of skill. Dean will overreach. He cannot but help himself. He is shrewd, but he must do certain things to nail down the base and make them loyal to him. One of the things he must do is cater to the base's hate for Bush and all he stands for.

There is a decided advantage in allowing Dean to do that while Bush secures his base and moves to the center.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Good points, thanks for sharing.
