From Pakistan and Indonesia to the western Sahara, radical Islam threatens a world war. They itch for nuclear weapons. They cannot be deterred like the Soviets and Chinese. Suddenly, American forces are surrounding and infiltrating into the hornets nest. Afghanistan, Iraq, former Soviet states to the North. There is more than a glimmer of a chance that this will work in time. Those who shrilly attack the only leader on the planet willing and able to fight this war on our behalf, should be ashamed of themselves.

Well said.

"The weapons are probably in the Bekaa Valley (northern Lebanon, next to Syria)".
Biological weapons do not require very much room. They could be anywhere. These weapons would be almost impossible to trace to the originator. If I was a terrorist, that would be my main weapon. We know anthrax works, and so do they.

Good! Of itself an okay speech.
"Good!" because of stuff that wasn't said, that was being pushed -- like return of the oil field contracts to the French and Germans. Bush is a good man.
But he has to get the US internals on a surer footing, or the extrenal forces against us will break further through than they have already, and that would include obvious enemies, if not new ones in for the exploitation.

I suppose the conveniently illusive WMD is located next to second volume of the much awaited Starr report eh?
To: Aunt Enna
Do you expect him to say "Saddam HAS weapons of mass destruction?" That is not correct, because Saddam doeosn't have anything except a rapidly dwindling life-expectancy.
The past tense is correct. Your nit-picking has been noted and disregarded.

"I suppose the conveniently illusive WMD....."
Believe what you want. I might be helpful to use logic to form an opinion though.

If we can have a good election, get a few more Republicans (even RINO's) in Congress, make further headway on turning back the leftward slide of the courts, and continue to see right-minded media and academia regain ground lost to the left, then our US internals will continue to get on a surer footing.
The left has been gaining, more than not, for at least a century. There's much damage to undo. It won't happen overnight.

I am putting you on my ping list to make sure you have an opportunity to comment when the report on WMD's is released.

I don't think it's rewriting history, Aunt Enna.
I think he knew going into it that this (fighting the war there, not here) was a major motivation.
Granted, I have no evidence of this. So I respect that you are not likely convinced to agree with me on this.
As to you're saying that the was was sold to us based on Saddam having WMD's that he'd use; it is a rewriting of history to suggest, as you seem to, that this was the reason, or even the chief reason, he provided for going in.
I'll grant that he almost surely didn't spell out as clearly and simply to the American People, as he presumably did to Condi behind closed doors, what were his various motivations and their relative strengths. But given the low level of public discourse on this, and other matters, occassioned us by the despicable democrats, it was fitting and proper that he treat this in part as a contest for public support that must be won.
Certainly other advisors, even before the actual war, were clear that moving the locus of action over there was a central motivation. At least that's my recollection. This is War, M'am. Strategery is an important element of winning wars. And one cannot always be plain spoken about one's stategery before the fact.
To: Aunt Enna
WMDs and the Gulf War and the UN resolutions that followed gave us a facially reasonable excuse to install a democratic government in Iraq and eliminate a horrible thug with the possibility of getting the French to say "ok." Forget how the war was "sold" and focus on the geopolitical shift that has taken place since the end of the Clinton administration. American power surrounds Iran. Taliban? Gone. Saddam? Gone. Gaddafi? Cowering and offering compensation to terror victims. Arafat? From White House visits to Pathetic hermit. Former Soviet states? Hosting American forces.
Not too shabby for two years since 9-11. And this president leads, he does not follow polls. If he sacrifices a second term by doing what he believes makes the country safer, that will be terrible, but it won't cause him to shift strategy.
This indeed is a long war fought on many fronts, with shifting alliances. We are lucky that we have someone leading and fighting to prevent a nuclearized Islamic war. God help him prevail in this struggle.
To: Starrgaizr
Oh, and Bashar Assad? Surrounded by Turkey, US-Iraq, and Israel. In a box.
To: ThePythonicCow
... that the was war was sold

You're wasting your time - it appears that this thread is a serious troll magnet. Aunt Ennaema, member since Aug 4, 2003. Besides, you know the chances of swaying the opinion of the left. They're 8^.
