Chris, we've already agreed to change that resolution to pacify France and others on the SC. Negropointe called it merely a working draft-- just something to toss on the table and chat about, and not as our serious and unchangeable position. Powell has said we are happy to "adjust and adapt" the resolution to get the support we desire.

You are totally right about the motives of our enemies in the SC. However, they didn't come to us. We came to them. We are the suitor and they are the pretty girl we want to take to prom. "Will you buy me a corsage?" "Why, yes." "Will you take me to dinner?" "Why, yes." "Will you rent a limo?" "Why, yes." "Will you pay for the dress?" "Why, yes."

But we don't have to give them everything they want. And we won't. You're proceeding from the assumption that every move to compromise is an unmitigated disaster. We need some help. If we need to compromise to get some help, I don't see the problem.

Politics is the art of the possible.

Be Seeing You,

Chris
