A couple of weeks ago, someone started a "Chicago" thread that was great fun, and that sounded delicious, BTW! (grin)
So all of you Michigan Freepers.... How 'bout it?
And who here remembers: "At the Zoo With Sonny Elliot"?
And who watched "Sir Graves Ghastley" for REALLY cheesy horror movies on Saturday afternoon?

Mr. X, the host of the Friday night horror movies? Boston Coolers? They were scoops of vanilla ice cream in a tall glass of Vernor's ginger ale - probably the best soft drink in the history of the planet. How did it become to be called "Boston?" Growing up there, I hit two of those exchanges: Vinewood and Vermont. The Soup Bowl game at U of D stadium for the Catholic School Championship and the Goodfellow Game at BRIGGS stadium for the City Championship? Remember U of D football BEFORE they merged with Mercy College and dropped football?

I remember 'The Ghoul' who used to switch from Channel 20 to 50 and back. Late night really bad movies. I think it was done by college students. He had a rubber frog, "Froggie" that was frog-napped and the 'nappers sent in a photo of him tied to a telephone pole...hysterical at the time. The Ghoul also got Pillsbury crescent rolls and did " Wiener-wrap a frog Make him roll over, Teach an old frog, A new trick".
Vernor's is still my favorite.
And the Lions turned into a bunch of pansies when they started playing indoors. Remember those games at Tiger Stadium (my dad still calls it Briggs) in the snow and sleet....the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field had nothing on us!

As a kid, (late 50's) I vacationed with my Mom at Aunt Freda's, I remember walking to the end of her street looking across the Detroit river at Belle Isle, the picnics at Belle Isle, and of course Soupy Sales with White Fang and Black Tooth, pleasant memories of Detroit!
(Now when I go to Detroit, it's to see the Ford Museum/Greenfield Village, and MGM Grand Casino.)
