It’s 4:46am September 6.

Its a little more than 100 hours from the Second Anniversary of Start the World Trade Center Attack and the subsequent Strike on the Pentagon and the Crash in Pennsylvania. 100 hours seems to be a long time; however, it is barely enough to reflect and remember all those who perished on the ground and in the air. Each one of the victims has a story, a life, that if retold would take more than 100 hours to appreciate the richness of their stay on this earth before it was snatched away.

Since 911, there has been more sacrifice. More have taken from this earth – this time not in tragedy but in a quest for justice and the expansion of freedom. They were not helpless victims but Heroes of liberation for the Afghanis and Iraqis and protectors of our domestic security.

We would hope that you would take the time and reflect on the lives of those who died on 9-11 and those who have sacrificed their all since that day in these next 100 hours. Please contribute a post of reflection, a prayer, a memorial, a picture or even just a ping to your friends to let them know that 9-11 has not been ignored this year.

I have that picture on my cube wall. It's been there since I found it on the FOX News web site shortly after the attacks. It was drawn by a 17 yr old girl in Washington state I think. I tried to post it here for others but don't know how to post graphics.

I also have a picture of the second plane hitting the WTC with big letters that say NEVER FORGET.

The artist is Eliza Gauger of Bellingham, WA. She was 17 at the time.
She donated proceeds from the sale of items with this artwork to the Red Cross.

From the Fox article:

'Gauger said the nationwide calls for peace at a candlelight vigil ignited her creativity.

"Everyone was standing up to the mic saying things like 'give peace a chance' and 'no retaliation,' but I don't think these people were thinking clearly about this man or what he's capable of accomplishing if we don't protect ourselves," the high school senior said of Usama bin Laden, the man suspected of masterminding the Sept. 11 attacks.'

I had never felt so horrible until I saw and felt that second plane hit. I was in junior high and heard the principal come on the intercom and say "Something has happend to New York. Would all teachers turn on their Tv's. I couldn't speak the rest of the period.

Leaders issue Patriot Day message
9/8/2003 - WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- The following is a Patriot Day message from Secretary of the Air Force Dr. James G. Roche and Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. John P. Jumper:
"The second anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, provides us all an opportunity to remember those murdered in New York, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania, as well as those patriots who have sacrificed their lives in the war on terror.
"Through tragedy, our nation renewed its unending resolve to fight terrorism, to defend our way of life and to give hope to others suffering under repressive regimes that support terror. Patriot Day reaffirms the airman's obligation to fight for what's right -- obliterating terrorism on every front to ensure a safe tomorrow for future generations of Americans and freedom-loving people around the world.
"You -- America's finest men and women who comprise our Air Force -- are doing absolutely remarkable work around the globe. From our own skies to the front lines in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations around the world, our superior Total Force of active-duty, Guard, Reserve and civilian airmen continues to respond brilliantly as the world's greatest air and space force. I'm not terrified. I'm committed to seeing it through, by voting for those who support the cause, and doing my part if I see anyone trying it in my community.

Thank you for the links. I'd done a quick google search on "911 statue of liberty," "statue of liberty mother gun 911," and "...mother child" without having any luck. (Searches done without the quotation marks and other punctuation.) Patience isn't always my virtue, so I decided it would be easier to track where I'd saved the picture and put it online. "Borrowing" somebody else's phrase, it's good to know "the rest of the story" now.

She donated proceeds from the sale of items with this artwork to the Red Cross.

I hope someone in turn provided her with some college expense money! She's certainly a deserving young woman.
