It is interesting history. I wonder about Japanese post surrender attacks on American Occupation forces.

One difference is that in Iraq, you have a lot of foreign hostile forces coming in from surrounding countries as well.

Those are not foreign forces. The reality is we are not fighting Saddam Hussein, but most of the Mohammadan world.

The History Channel had a program on the Occupation of Japan and indicated there were no occupation casualties. Since the Emporer told his subjects to cooperate with the occupation, I'm inclined to believe that's correct.

Japan and Germany don't compare to the difficulties we're facing in Iraq. Iraq, a country that makes the Balkans look orderly, is a hodgepodge of religious and ethnic quarrels. That terrorists can now operate in Iraq against us only increases the difficulties. Our problems in Iraq are, IMHO, just beginning.
