Bustamante Backer Defends Racist Slogan

Bustamante Backer Defends Racist Slogan

A leading backer of California recall race candidate Cruz Bustamante is defending the Latino supremacist group MEChA and its slogan, "For the race, everything; for those outside the race, nothing."

Rep. [Xavier] Becerra, D-Calif., complained Wednesday night that MEChA critics were engaging in McCarthyite tactics.

"This is like the 1960s where people were accusing the Southern Leadership Christian Conference of being a communist organization," he told Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes."

Bustamante, a MEChA member in his college days, has been under fire on the issue since Saturday, when he declined to condemn the organization for preaching a racist message.

During a heated exchange with Sean Hannity, Rep. Becerra revealed that he too had been a MEChA member, and praised the group for helping Latinos get an education.

"I got to be the first in my family to go to college" thanks to MEChA, Becerra said.

Hannity repeatedly pressed Becerra on why he would belong to a group that preaches racial discrimination, prompting the Bustamente backer to complain, "Are you calling me a racist?"

When the Fox host pointed out that MEChA favors the return of California to Mexico, Becerra still declined to criticize the group, saying, "I got a lot of help from people in the organization who have promoted education for kids and who continue to do that. ... What I know is what they do."

The full exchange went like this:

HANNITY: Congressman Becerra, I want to ask you this question, and I want a straightforward answer. And please don't duck it. I want to ask you about Mr. Bustamante and this group, MEChA and I want to ask you which calls for a separate state. They want California released to return to Mexico and they have as their slogan, "For the race, everything. For those outside the race, nothing."

Now, he was given an opportunity this weekend to denounce that statement and denounce those positions and he didn't do it. I want to know, number one, how can the Democrats support him if he doesn't have the courage to take a moral stand on a racial issue like that?

BECERRA: Wait, Sean. You're totally misinterpreting what Cruz Bustamante, the lieutenant governor, has said. You're also misrepresenting what the organization is.

HANNITY: For the race, everything ...

BECERRA: I was a member of it. Are you calling me a racist? I was a member of MEChA when I was in college.

HANNITY: Do you agree with that statement? Their slogan.

BECERRA: I don't agree with that statement.

HANNITY: Why were you in an organization that had that as a slogan, then?

BECERRA: Sean, are you familiar with MEChA?

HANNITY: For the race everything, outside the race nothing ...

BECERRA: Are you familiar with the fact it's an organization that promotes the ability for young people to get to college, the way I got to be the first in my family to go to college.

HANNITY: But they want California returned to Mexico?

BECERRA: I got a lot of help from people in the organization who have promoted education for kids and who continue to do that.

HANNITY: Is I only have a few more seconds is that their slogan?

BECERRA: What I know is what they do.

HANNITY: Is that their slogan? You're a member. Is that their slogan?

BECERRA: This is like the 1960s where people were accusing the Southern Leadership Christian Conference of being a communist organization.

HANNITY: Would you condemn anybody would you condemn any organization that had that as their answer this question.

BECERRA: Are you calling me a racist?

HANNITY: Would you ...

BECERRA: Are you calling me as racist?

HANNITY: ... that had that as their slogan? Yes or no?

BECERRA: I have been a congressman for 11 years and I've served very well. And I was a member of MEChA. [End of Excerpt]

Why shouldn't a high government official that supports the violent overthrow of California be held accountable?

So many of us have been complaining about MEChA and its racist Mechista brownshirts for some time. It is great that the word is FINALLY getting out. If it wasn't for the recall and Bustamante filing as a candidate, few would have heard about the racist group and its members. Now I wonder what Mechista Rep Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) has to say about the slogan.

Hitler helped a lot of people too. Mussolini made the trains run on time. Osama built schools and roads (according to Senator Patty Murray, at least.)

In America, those kids could get a college education without belonging to a subversive organization. To say that it is the only reason they did is rediculous.

Did you heard Bob Mulholland on Hannity radio saying that Republicans who criticize MEChA "Never pass up an opportunity to bash Latinos?"

IE, any criticism of MEChA = RACISM.

I know nothing about Bustamante. I have only appearances to go on. And the name. I am probably 100% wrong here, but the guy's look, his walk, his attitude, and his name spell ORGANIZED CRIME, to me.

Right! We're trying to get to the truth!

We already know the truth. It's when we try to get THEM to admit it that we see a lot of verbal sidestepping which only reinforces what we already know.

MEChA is a racist organization. Pure and simple. And boy, do those Aztlan-ers hate it when we bring it up.

I understand the national Mecha website has been taken down... I guess if the Klan just said "sorry just kidding" it'd be OK.. what's the difference between the Klan and Mecha? --- The Klan didn't advocate the violent overthrow of California

BECERRA: I got a lot of help from people in the organization who have promoted education for kids and who continue to do that.

And here is why this will not become an issue anywhere outside of Fox News. They have played the marxist trump card...the children. The Republican party has whored itself out to the soccer-moms for votes and the soccer-mom mentallity has infested the party. Why else do you think there is no coordinated front by GOP office holders to beat this issue like a drum? in 1994 the GOP would have been all over this like Harry and Louise were all over Hilliary-Care. Now they are too afraid of a possible soccer-mom-mexican alliance.

He's in be with the rich Indian casino game in California. The slimebag is the only candidate who is using a loophole to take $ millions in campaign donations from that band of criminals, while there's a law in effect manning contributions from such shady outfits that exceed $21,200. The clown will never call an illegal alien and illegal alien; he calls them 'immigrants'. He's a vile individual.

As a resident I do know a little about Cruz B.; he said the N word, he wants to raise my taxes, he wants to control the gas prices, and he belongs to a racist group that wants to give half of the west back to mexico; the short fat bald part I can accept, the others I cannot.

"Rep. [Xavier] Becerra, D-Calif., complained Wednesday night that MEChA critics were engaging in McCarthyite tactics."

First of all, McCarthy did nothing wrong. The released transcripts prove that.

Secondly, assuming Becerra IS correct in assuming McCarthy was a evil man, does that mean that black Americans are just being McCarthistic when they take offense at being called the N-Word as they were by Bustemante?

Does that mean the intolerant are being McCarthiistic when they go after the KKK for murder, and church and cross burning?

Inquiring minds want to know.

And to say that the only reason some of them did get an education is because of a racist organization is also racist and the ultimate put-down of another's abilities to succeed on their own merits.

I wonder if these scumbums would think that the Klan was okay if what they did, in addition to burning crosses and preaching racism, was to send the children of their members to college on a "whites only" scholarship program? Would that make the Klan acceptable in their eyes? Would they view members of the Klan favorably under such circumstances? Would it help Robert Byrd come out of the closet and put on the sheets once again?
