Schwarzenegger says campaign period is too short for debates

San Francisco-AP -- Celebrity and gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger is suggesting that he's too busy campaigning, and that he doesn't have the time to engage in too many candidate debates.

Schwarzenegger, appearing on a California radio talk show program (on K-R-L-A), was explaining his decision to only take part in one debate on September 17th. He says he's gotten so many offers for debates he can't do them all -- with just a little more than a month left in the campaign to unseat Governor Gray Davis.

Schwarzenegger also rejected criticism that he doesn't have any real Republican credentials. He says he registered for the Republican party just a month after emigrating from Austria, 35 years ago.

Schwarzenegger says he heard President Nixon speak about free enterprise -- and that inspired him to rush out to register with the Republican party.

He wasn't a citizen then. Either he's lying again, or he committed a felony.

RINO scumbag

yet were all supposed to jump on the bandwagon because thats the best we can offer -

He's reluctant to debate because IMO he has no grasp of anything other than his bankroll

....this whole thing pisses me off - we bemoan the hollywood dirtbags - yet laud this guy - I envision crap like this empowering worse, like Ed Asner

heat ... kitchen .. yada yada... excuses excuses... tsk tsk, A real leader we got here, huh? Unwilling to participate in an exchange of ideas in a debate or 2,, unless it's on his own terms.

Go ahead, and vote for him folks. You deserve him.

I'd vote No on the Recall before I'd let Clueless in Hollowweed do the same role in Sacramento.

Is it confirmed that he said this? Felons I can tolerate (I've known a number of very decent and righteous felons), but once a man has deliberately lied to me I never beleive anything he tells me again.

Why President Bush won't publicly endorse Tom is mystifying. He is the only one capable of restoring California's economic health. That in turn would help the national economy, making reelection much easier.

He says he's gotten so many offers for debates he can't do them all --

Oh, yeah? From whom?

How many legitimate offers from statewide agencies are there? I hope he's not talking about a debate at the Shriners Lodge or something (no offense to Shriners). I'd think that a KNBC or KGO forum would be legitimate enough to do.

That may very well be part of the plan cooked up by the Cal RAT-bastard party when they shoved Bustamante out there to take the crap. Not that he doesn't deserve it. I don't believe for one minute that he acted independently of the Cal RAT machine. Don't think he would sell himself out that way? Think he's anything but a pimp for the RAT party? Remember, the RATs have one thing in common: a total lack of ethics. They are intent on ONE thing - retaining power.

Mainstream RAT-voters in Cal do not like Bustamante; given the choice, they would rather have Davis finish his term. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that Davis will be retained; the polls change minute by minute in this thing. The press is playing up big time the rivalry between McClintock and Arnold; the whole thing is calculated, not to elect Bustamante, but to KEEP Davis. In the end, I wouldn't be suprised if that is the result.

"The shooter is described as a middle-aged man of medium build. "

There is a good chance AS will win this, so endorsing his gop opponent will alienate arguably the most recognized figure in politics today.

I caught a little bit about the 1 debate he might be planning on doing on the 27(?). The reporter said there was talk the questions would be given to the candidates in advance. How this idiot ever thought he was quailfied to be governor is beyond me.

Typical of A.P. Headline implies he won't debate, period. Story clarifies that he will, just not as often as his opponents who, by the way, are desperate for the publicity of appearing with Arnold. Anyway, this is fairly standard behavior for the front runner. You may recall that W wanted fewer debates that Gore.

McClintock is not likely to win if the election is held in October.

More importantly, McClintock is a conservative (no compassionate modifier) and conservatives can't advance Bush's agenda.

Schwarzenegger says campaign period is too short for debates

Otherwise stated as: Mr. Schwarzenegger doesn't have enough time to develop even the appearance of understanding the issues, sufficient to avoid McClintock cleaning his clock.

Here's a clue Ahnold: You never will understand what to do, so you'll do what you're told. That's why the Statist CAGOP heavies put you there.
