NAACP complains about tests in Florida

The Florida office of the NAACP yesterday filed a federal complaint over the state's use of scholastic assessment tests, saying the state must first provide a quality education before denying students diplomas and grade promotion for failing the exams.

It claims Florida provides a "racially segregated and unequal education system" that has been "preserved, perpetuated and re-established in current policies and practices in the state."

:SIGH: I hate liberals. Attacking windmills and not dealing with issues at hand that contribute to a child's miseducation. Oh how on earth did ex-slaves teach themselves to become doctors, lawyers and scientists without NAACP or white liberal guilt?

"It is unfortunate that, for political reasons, an organization would seek to do away with reforms that have made such a difference in the lives of those it purports to represent."

Man...Those reforms must have really helped the Democrat Party leadership! Well, THEY are the ones that the NAACP represents aren't they?

Hmmm. And how, if 2.5 Billion dollars is withheld from the florida Board of Ed., will these reforms be initiated and implimented? Moreover, without the standardized testing that the NAA(L)CP deplores, how will the schools and teachers and pedigogical methods which are failing to educate be identified, so that they can be reformed and corrected, eh?

You have students that can do so many other things, and all should be used to determine if they should be promoted.

That's like saying that because I can ride a bike, I shouldn't have to pass a test to get a license to drive a car. Then, since having a driver's license means I am competent to drive a car, I shouldn't have to pass a test to get a pilot's license. Then, if the airline refuses to hire me, I can sue in federal court that my civil rights are being violated.

I've seen the FCAT test that they're talking about. If a student can't pass it, after numerous tries, then they haven't taken advantage of the oportunity to become educated even a little bit. The reason is social promotions. It is deeemed racist if too high a percentage of black students don't pass to the next grade. These kids are not dumb. They know the system and they use it.

The problem is not that Florida is holding students accountable for some level of knowledge in order to graduate from high school. The problem is that too many in society do not hold blacks accountable for their actions.

Nearly 13,000 of the state's 138,000 high school seniors did not graduate this year because they failed the FCAT. Nearly half of those failing students are minorities, and objectors claim that indicates the test is unfair to those groups.

So nearly half that failed were minorities - isn't that the definition of MINORITY!!! If you add up all the "non-whites" (cuban, hispanic, black etc) you probably get exactly "nearly half" of the student population being "minorities". Ergo, statistically speaking, the failure rate was equal across the board.

You bring up an interesting point. What percentage of Florida public school students are minorties? Private schools change the numbers as does home schooling. In Escambia county, which has a black population of 20%, the proportion of black public school students is 33%. If you throw in Hispanics, Asians, and American Indians, "nearly half" of the students are minority students.

Let me get this right.
1. They all sit in the SAME classroom.
2. They all have the SAME books and learning materials.
3. They all have the SAME teacher.
4. They all have access to the SAME research materials and libraries.

Yet, the minorities say that taking the SAME test is RACIST!

It's amazing! The only thing I can imagine is that some of those racist children actually do their homework and attempt to learn while in class.

Its entirely possible that a minority student "taught" by some "teachers" could not pass a simple test. See (NO) TEACHING FOR DUMMIES.

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Has anybody read this, recently, to the members of the NAACP? Can you imagine the outcry if white America tried to judge Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton by the content of their character? THAT, my friends, is the problem with the NAACP and their tired, old "racism, racism, racism" propaganda.

It would be so refreshing if some Black organization actually tried to advance their race by pushing morality, decency, learning the truth rather than how to make propaganda etc.

I remember Booker T. Washington made some similar statements regarding his race. He wanted to advance them by making them better people. The current leaders want to use them for their own gain, while in fact helping to keep them behind.
