These idiots on the news who count each fatality from the announced end of major fighting are doing more to hurt the cause than all the suicide bombers in Baghdad. One uses explosives and the other uses lies.

"Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your life. It is far better that you fear the media, for they will steal your HONOR. That awful power, the public opinion of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and shoemaking and fetched up in journalism on their way to the poorhouse."

~Mark Twain~

And history repeats itself . . .

You know, whatever one thinks about the war in Iraq, one thing is clear: We're not DELIBERATELY targeting innocents over there, never did.

Yes, your implication is that we did. Typical manuevers from the left though, just MAKE UP "facts", repeat the "facts" long enough, then they become true, no matter how OUTRAGEOUS the claim.

Will you PLEASE use the brain God gave you and just THINK for once in your life, instead of listening to the "feel good logic" of the left.

For all I know right now, you posted to make my point of view look ridiculous.

Good point, although you really don't need any help :^). Sorry, but that was a hanging curveball you just tossed.

You'd been around here long enough to know how things work here. Even the leading FR war critic, JohnGalt, thinks your post was full of it.

Yeah I get it alright. If someone comes to my house for dinner and says he doesnt agree with the war, instead of politely disagreeing with him, I throw him out on his head. Pretty rotten host behavior if you ask me.

So what are you supposed to do in that situation, just let ANYONE come into your house and say what EVER the hell they want?

Please, just go away little anarchist.

Debating the merits of foreign interventions is fine and fair, but you are closing your eyes to the article and the posters who are content to ostensibly have American soldiers take terrorist bullets rather than themselves.

What say you to the poster who said at least they can shoot back?

The responsibility of preservation of self and family is a moral responsibility abdicated by many apparently.

More Todd Beamers
Fewer Ivy Leaguers

Would you choose to purchase a ticket from an airline that let terrorists carry guns onto airplanes?

You've indicated that you would.

I would say that the best approach is a combination of an armed citizenry AND a professional military to take the fight to where the terrorists are based AND good intel to root out the buggers. Armed citizens on planes (or at least armed pilots) nmay have prevented the 9/11 attacks - but armed citizens would have done nothing to prevent the first WTC attack.

I try to be respectful in my posts. However, you are a fool. I respect your right to be one but I have no respect for the ignorant opinion you are championing.

An armed citizenry is the right remedy to a tyrannical government. It is the LAST line of defense for national threats. It is wholly inadequate as the first line of defense.

I agree with you in a dumbed-down 2nd Amendment sort of way but you are way beyond loony.

Who do you think can provide the vision, and leadership-in your opinion?

My hope is that George W. Bush can do it.

In case you haven't noticed, Todd Beamer's dead. Yeah, he went out a hero and took his murderers down with him, but he's still dead, and never had a CHANCE to get out of his predicament alive.

That MIGHT be acceptable to you, but not to me. Sometimes the best defense is a good offense. Right now, the terrorists are caught in between two bad options. They CANNOT allow the liberation of Iraq to stand, but if they go it Iraq and take on our troops, they have little chance of coming out of that encounter alive.

Every terrorist our troops kill in Iraq is a terrorist that cannot kill innocent Americans here or abroad. Do we lose troops? Yeah, and while I hate that, I hate what happened on 9/11 a lot more.

I think you need to better familiarize with the concept of a disarmed culture. Guns are more than just tools in this country, they are owned by a culture that takes self-defense very seriously. Recall the old mantra that gun control leads to genocide? Through the right prism, then, 9/11 is well understood not as an externalized threat, but as internalized ailment in the culture-- that is how Americans have traditionally handled such things as adults taking responsibility rather than the child tendency to blame an external factor.

Think about the school shootings, children and teachers running for their lives rather than tackling en masse two skinny shotgun wielding kids, all the while the federalis in the SWAT hid behind protection in the parking lot.

That is the culture of a society that has given up the responsibility of protecting the herd, protecting their fellow man, protecting themselves for the hope that they alone might escape with their life.

Todd Beamer, the best of America's sons, demonstrated that a thousand F-16s cannot defeat one determined real American.

Lets resist a tangent on the CIA ties to radical islam in the years after the Cold War and failure to tie up loose ends, and focus on only a writer who argued:

"its a good thing that US soldiers are targets for terrorists rather than American citizens at home."

If you wish to tie that back to sound American conservative thinking, be my guest, but don't just ignore what the author wrote simply because at this moment in time you happen to be on the same side of a particular issue-- that is called ideological blinders.
