I hadn't considered that; if so, Schwarzenegger may have the same problem. If we don't elect a Republican with a good majority, we could be seeing some backlash right away. The new governor will have to be a politician as well as an ideologue (or a celebrity). I think Schwarzenegger would be able to get on TV and talk to Californians about legislation and policy. This is something Gray never seemed to do, at least not with any real message. McClintock might be able to do that, too -- we just don't know.

He will, but I don't think it will be to the same extent.
That after-school prop he got passed ( whether you like it or not ) gained him some points and respect from that side of the fence, showing him as open-minded, effective and a leader.
