That's nice.
But, let's hear it from Arnold, directly, DURING the campaign. Not through quotes and outtakes from his days as an bodybuilder and actor. Let's hear what the aspiring governor has to say.

That said, for all his RINO status, Ahhhnold is still to the right of Bustamonte (and most of the PRK legislature), has the poll numbers, the money, and the name recognition. If'n you want a Republican running the PRK, you need to support Arnold Schwartzenegger. He is also probably the best chance ya'll will ever have of pryin' the PRK's electoral votes out the fingers of the Democrats.

Yes, Arnold is more conservative than Bustamante. Obviously. However, you're all missing my point and the point that Rush Limbaugh made. You must not be reading the entire post. Right now - this moment - is the perfect time to elect a real conservative. If you don't try now, when will it be a better time? The Democrats are in disarray, the state is on the skids, liberal policies have all but destroyed the state. A new message, a new direction - that is what is needed. Not warmed over slightly-less-than-liberal policies. Conservatism is the answer! What a bunch of wimps.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I just know a guy who does. He's a "Libertarian of the Right" and he thinks that Arnie is the best chance, and I'll take his word for it. Like you I would rather have a real conservative, like McClintock (though I have my doubts about any Republican's ability to govern with the PRK legislature overwhelmingly commie-pinko-socialist Democrat).

Arnold said, "Outlawing guns is not the right method of eliminating the problem. If you outlaw guns, people will still have them illegally."
Can we find an anti-gun control quote from Arnold that's a little less lukewarm? I'm asking in all seriousness.

The evidence strongly suggests Arnold is not, in fact, a liberal.

Oh you betcha.

Arnie's only official dabbling in California politics thus far has been to champion a childrens afterschool program which now costs the taxpayers millions and is part of the cradle to grave system.

If Arnie is a fiscal conservative the first thing he'll do as governor is to ax his own program.

Oh you betcha.

Great post, thanks :-)

And any of you who want to argue about this, that's fine. Just make sure you read it first, please, this time.

I don't know why they would, many of us have made all these exact points repeatedly on the Arnold threads... they ignored the facts then, and will continue to ignore them.

As a matter of fact, the manner in which Mr. Chandra has posed some of the points sound very familiar... I wouldn't be surprised to find he is a Freeper or lurker here ;-)

Sigh... same garbage, as always.

I believe you are discussing Prop 49? The one that was endorsed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and the California Taxpayers Union, and Rep. Christopher Cox.... anti-tax folks all the way who approved it because it does NOT "now costs the taxpayers millions"?

Going by many of his supporters, McClintock's case for election is SO WEAK that they must resort to posting outright lies and stunning exaggerations to smear Arnold.

After his speech of last week, he said he wouldn't rule out new taxes in case California had some catastrophic event, i.e. earthquake. No catastrophy, no taxes.

They will find a catastrophe. We were in a state of national emergency from the Depression through the Nixon Administration. Why? To end the emergency would eliminate certain emergency powers.

When someone talks about "only in a catastrophe" you can bet the house that he will find one.

Where is the quote "I'm for Gay marrige and, if elected, I will sign a bill that makes it the law of California."

He's made the statement that "I have no absolute sexual standards in my head that say this is right and this is wrong." He has come out for homosexual adoption. You can induce his position on this.

The guy favors domestic partnerships -- a social issue over which a governor can have influence -- althought to his credit he said that "I think gay marriage should be between a man and a woman." To me, the practical effect is the same.

On education, he says he would "work with the present system" and opposes vouchers.

He is for "sensible gun control" and promises to "close the gun show loophole."

He's also against oil drilling.

This is a conservative?

How exactly am I wrong?

I have shown Ah-nold's positions on issues, but some blind professional Republicans insist on trying to make a conservative out of him no matter what.

He takes very liberal stands on several major issues.

Because someone might take a more liberal view of an issue than you do, does not make them a Liberal. Things are not always black or white.

Arnold takes liberal views on MANY issues, as is well documented. Taking liberal positions on many issues makes one a liberal in my book. Read his stated positions. Arnold's own words show that he is not a conservative. He is a Kennedy Republican.

Someone posted this on another thread, and it is a great compilation of Schwarzenegger's views.

Arnold Schwarzenegger gave his most detailed comments to date on a range of social and policy issues Wednesday when he appeared on the Sean Hannity and Larry Elder syndicated talk-radio programs. Here are some of the positions he staked out:

ABORTION

_Told Hannity he is "pro-choice" but opposes the late-stage procedures described as "partial-birth" abortions. Asked whether he is in favor of parental notification when minors seek abortions, he replied, "I am. But in some cases when there is abuse in the family or problems in the family, then the courts should decide."

GAY MARRIAGE

_Said he did not support gay marriage but "I do support domestic partnerships." He said marriage should be between a man and a woman.

GUNS

_Said he supports a ban on assault weapons, trigger locks under some circumstances and the Brady Bill, which requires background checks on gun purchasers. "I feel that it's important to have, and also I would like to close the loophole of the gun shows," he said, referring to a legal provision that allows unchecked sales at gun shows. But he added, "I think that people should have the right to bear arms."

PRAYER IN SCHOOLS

_"I believe in prayer in school and I think it should be up to the schools, you know, what religion they belong and what direction they want to go," he said.

OFFSHORE DRILLING

_Said companies should not be permitted to drill for oil off California's coast. "I think that we should stop the oil drilling and I think that our state government and federal government should negotiate to buy back the leases," he said.

SCHOOL VOUCHERS

_Indicated support for some form of vouchers. "With No Child Left Behind Act that President Bush has put forward you have a chance that if your school has failed that you can go and take your child to another school," he said. "I believe in that. I think it gives us choices, gives the parents choices, which is extremely important."

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

_Said he had not yet taken a position on affirmative action or on Proposition 54, the initiative that will appear on the recall ballot and would ban the state from collecting most racial data.

DRUG LEGALIZATION

_Said drug legalization was "a bad idea" but he supported legalized medicinal marijuana.

IMMIGRATION

_Indicated support for allowing undocumented immigrants already in the country to remain here, but a spokesman said later he was not specifically proposing an amnesty program.

_Said he opposed legislation to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, but that services for illegal immigrants was a complicated issue that was mostly up to the federal government.

_Said Proposition 187, the 1994 measure that denied many services to illegal immigrants, was "history" because it has been largely voided by the courts. He supported the proposition at the time voters approved it. "Now we have to move forward with the whole thing and to look at it, what we're going to do with all the people that are undocumented immigrants here in this state. What should we do? Should we have them to stay here, which I think is the right way to do, but how do you then include them in our society, how do you make it official, how do you make it legal?" he said. He added he would try to team up with other states with large immigrant populations and lobby the federal government to address the issue.

TAXES

_Refused to take a pledge not to raise taxes, but pledged to raise them only if there was a state emergency.

Well then, I guess I'm a Liberal too, because I agree with alot of what he says. Not all points, but many. I do not have to agree with everything a politian does or says, I don't always agree with Bush; but I support him.

You are not from CA, I have lived here my whole life, I understand the politics, and Arnold is our only chance to have a fiscally conservative governor.

If you consider a person who won't rule out tax increases, who says the state should spend more on the existing education system, who campaigned hard for increased funding for government-sponsored babysitting (AKA "After-school programs), and who says that children have first claim on the tresury a fiscal conservative.

I don't.

But the best indicator will be to see who Arnie surrounds himself with as his advisors. That's always the tipoff.

Old management proverb: "Personnel IS Policy"

Translation: It doesn't matter what senior management SAYS its policy is. What matters is what the PEOPLE it puts in place decide to impliment.
