There may be soon be less of ABC's 'The View' Co-Host Star Jones to pass around.

Spies on the show say that the corpulent commentator is going to get gastric bypass surgery, which is now commonplace among portly celebs.

Jones who has battled her weight for years, has finally bit the bullet and hopes to shed the pounds like Al Roker and Carnie Wilson.

Seven months? I could have had a baby since this thread was originally posted.

Good point, I hadn't looked back to see the original posting date. It may be that losingside and renee84 are one in the same person. I don't know.

Interesting coincidence - 'losingside' and 'renee84' have exactly one post each and they're both on this thread.

You're right. Signed up today, and posts #25 AND #27 I would bet are the same person. One of the MO's of our troll population is that they sign up and pull up and comment on threads that are months or even years old. Their comments usually include the accusation that we are all so mean, and that we don't understand, etc., etc. In this case, I think the troll tried to resurrect this old thread not once, but twice. Why would a brand new poster go to all the trouble to pull up a thread that is several months old to make a comment, when there are hundreds of newer ones on current events upon which to make a comment? One answer: TROLL!

I'm sorry, but the World Record for spelling and punctuation errors has already been bestowed for 2004.

But hey, how about a hug?

you don't speak for star jones and you Obviously don't know her like I do.  Star couldn't care less about her career, her health or her appearance.  her all consuming passion is competitive eating and her time on the view and other tv shows is just to raise money for her next eating stunt.  i sat next to star jones on a san fransico to raleigh north Carolina flight recently and found her somewhat aloof, indefensably porcine, and beligerantly drunk.  in fact, if it weren't for her celebrity status, i'm sure she would have been kicked off the plane.  as it was, she was calmed only by airline employees feeding her the crew's meals, 7 first class entres, 9 coach meals, a garbage bag full of smoked almonds, and inexplicably, several hot towelets.  "Bring me another box of wine!" she roared, and the crew submitted to her demands.  Shortly, she fell asleep, a rumpled, crumb covered mess, with hair akimbo, and an industrial strength girlde badly askew.  shortly before our decent into Raleigh, she awoke with a a thunderous belch.  however, her demeanor was completely different.  it takes superhuman effort and ability to metabolize that much alcohol, but indeed she'd done it.  the star Jones i knew from watching endless episodes of the view was back.  We chatted beguilingly about the carolina pulled pork eating contest she was going to be participating in the next day.  she confided in me that on more than one occasion she'd eaten an entire pig in one form or another, and also sadly relayed to me that her days of competitive eating could soon be over.  it seems that an incident that took place aboard a peter pan bus from new york to akron ohio in which she was falesly accused of stealing all the other passenger's food through strong armed tactics had led a draconian judge to sentence her to have a gastric bypass operation.  i hope you will all join me in praying for ms. jones' court mandated surgery to go well and for her to enjoy her new career as a competitive eating analyst.

Oh my!

Like the threads about someone who killed their kids and then the mystery newbie pops up (sans caps and punctuation) to claim "she is my best friend" or "i am a close family member".

Busy little troll.

Nope, you aren't the one.

The caps (though rare) and periods gave you away.

Maybe the answer is will power. This small stomach doesn't cry out to be fed as much or as often.

However, I can't imagine a grossly obese person eating only an ounce per hour. Not even a normal weight person could do that for the rest of his life. I think as time goes on they can have 2 to 3 ounces. It is strictly a change in life style.

This is a risky surgery with a high mortality rate.

Exactly. Just look at our troll(s) here: Losingside and Renee84. This is the only thread upon which either of these ID's have ever bothered to comment. Losingside dug it up when it was a month old, and Renee84 dug it up again six months after that.

Who knows if it is one troll that gets their jollies from resurrecting these old threads, or if it is a concerted effort by several to try and stir up old stuff to get our attention away from the current news? They are always claiming how mean we are and trying to start an argument. Doesn't matter -- they are so easy to spot.

I have two children ages 5 and 3 and when they ask me to tell them a story, my blood runs cold with terror for what I might tell them.  "Uhhh... Daddy's stories aren't for children..."

It is strictly a change in life style.

That was what worked for me. I can still eat all the 'bad' things I used to. I just eat less of them or have them less frequently. My high-fat, fast-food habits pushed me up over 225. Since I cut way back on them, I've dropped to the 165-170 range. (It took a while to lose it but I've been able to keep it off for over a year now.)

what reasons are there for them not to eat that same reduced amount without resorting to surgery?

My husband had the surgery and lost 120 pounds, so I'll try and answer. He had been seriously overweight since he had been five years old. His stomach was huge, the doctor told me it could easily hold 48 ounces, so it took that much food for him to feel full, and for his brain to get the message he was full. Also, he was so overweight he could not excercise effectively. After the surgery his stomach was initially 4 ounces (which eventually expanded to 8 oz where it stopped) so he felt full after just a small portion. Now he eats "normal" size meals and is satisfied. Before, he had to eat huge amounts to stop feeling hungry. He has started an excercise program now that he can move, and is continuing to lose although its a lot more slowly than it was at the begining.

I will say this operation is emphatically not for everyone. I am losing my weight the old fashioned way, because any of those surgeries are painful and have long term health implications and side effects. (There are four different kinds of bariatric surgeries, the Wilson/Roker one in my opinion being the most dangerous and least effective long term) Bariatric surgery is indicated for those who have ALWAYS been overweight, since they were kids, and have two or more SERIOUS obesity related illnesses (diabetes, sleep apnea, joint degradation, circulation problems, heart disease, etc.) For me, even though I know it will take another year to get down to my goal weight, surgery is not an option. But I have a normal size stomach and can excercise. For my husband, it has literally saved his life.

You might be interested to know both my husband and I are annoyed at everyone thinking the surgery is some kind of magic bullet and that it's easy. My husband still has to watch his diet, must take dietary supplements for the rest of his life, and needs to excercise. If you drink alcohol you will gain weight no matter how small your stomach is. And you have to excercise once you can to keep up your muscle mass. But the surgery will help you be able to eat normal-sized portions and feel full, which is the real hurdle for those who have been obese since childhood.

Thanks for your reply. It wasn't my intent to 'put down' or mock anyone who needs these procedures. Serious abdominal surgery, though, strikes me as an extremely dangerous way to force someone into making dietary/lifestyle changes.

Honestly, I didn't think you did put anybody down, you asked a question -- a question that more of these idiot stars should ask their doctors, in my opinion. The surgeon who operated on my husband put him through a battery of psycological tests. He told us a lot of obese people use food, especially carbohydrates, as a "drug", and some of his patients went on to develop other addictions (mostly alcohol and drugs) once they couldn't eat as much as they wanted. He sent those folks to shrinks instead of operating on them. The sad thing is some of those patients just went to other, less ethical doctors who gave them the operation anyway. You are right: serious abdominal surgery is NOT something to do because you saw somebody do it on TV! Believe me, after seeing what hubby went through during recovery, I'll stick to diet and excercise, thank you very much!
