A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

I love to be relaxing in that boat, just drifting with a good book and a cool beverage.

Thanks for reminding me of my manners! Ran right out for my hike with the kids this morning and never said goodmorning!
Goodmorning evening to the Finest!
Interesting hike too. Grew a few more grey hairs on it. I spotted a toad that I approached. Was just about to pick him up to show the kids and "talk about the toad" when a snake struck. The snake was apparently stalking the same toad. I was only a few inches away from being caught in that hunt! Felt the breeze from the snake as it passed my hand. (shivers!)

That is a NICE jesture. I am going to check the supermarket. I usually shop at the club store to buy in large quantities. I feed 5 at my house and 3 of them are boys (young sons and hubby). They can eat!

You'ze lucky, it sounds like !! What kind of snake was it ??? ...

The Western Diamondsback Rattlesnake is responsible for the most serious bites and highest fatalities from snakebites in North America. (Conant and Collins, 1991). Above is a photo of an arm envenomated with Crotalus atrox venom. Snakebites create medical emergencies when humans are envenomated. The venom of the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake is complex mixture of toxins. Hemorrhagins, the predominant toxins, are zinc metalloproteinases which cause extensive tissue damage, edema and hemorrhage in humans.

OH MY GOSH! Earlier this summer a water moccasin bit my cousin on the toe. They have a creek on their property and she was going to tell her dogs and cats goodnight--in sandals walking on a path. She was in the hospital for eight days. She still has to wrap her leg when she flies. It was really serious for the first few days.

Oh, yeah. When we lived in San Antonio, Tx back in 1970-71 there was a lady across the street that was bit on her ankle in the driveway while getting into her car. (The area we lived in was being newly developed with housing and the bulldozers kept the Rattlesnakes moving all the time). A doctor just happened to be next door and gave her immediate first aid and got her to the hospital. To make things worse, it turned out that she was ALSO allergic to the anti-venom they gave her. Sheesh ! She almost died, but did recover, fortunately ...

Ha ha! We should ping you to our Bear Stories here in NJ!
We had a 105lb teenager thrawt off a black bear attack with a pop to his snout with her elbow!
NJ has more wildlife then the stereotypes of the turnpike let on!

AHHHH! Meekie! Did you need to be so graphic!
I didn't even look up the snake yet. Now you have me curious. The entire reason for stalking the toad was to look him up in our Peterson Field guides we always carry with us. (my nerdie influence of teaching the kids to reference)
But I was so shaken by the closeness of that incident, I just pushed the kids away! Darn. I guess maybe we should have looked it up? Maybe I handled that wrong. Now I have to go get the field guide and read.
