I saw a lot of expats in Manila. The common denominator -- such as I saw, anyway -- was was not a wandering life or any sort of libertarian rebellion, but rather, a settled, domestic life married to a Filipina. I'd see them on the streets or in grocery stores. They were quiet and went about their business and seemed content. Some in Bangkok also, though I didn't see as many.

I don't hang out in bars, so can't give any report on rowdier guys in seedier places.

In a few years, you will find me in Cebu, not Manila.
