Christians Thrown Out: Baseball Execs Eject Biblical Message from Homosexual Event
Agape Press ^ | 8/18/03 | Jim Brown

Four Christians were recently kicked out of Veterans Stadium during the Philadelphia Phillies' "Gay Community Day."

Last Tuesday, Michael Marcavage and three friends brought a banner to the ballpark that read "Homosexuality is sin, Christ can set you free." He says their intention was to share that biblical message of hope with homosexuals who were at the stadium. [See Earlier Story]

Seven minutes after unfurling their banner from their centerfield seats, however, the group was approached by security. Marcavage says the four were told that they could not display their banner.

"They basically said that the [Phillies] executives said this banner must come down. And we questioned them, because there were other banners in the stadium as well," he says.

Marcavage says while their banner with its Christian message was prohibited, several other banners were permitted in the park that day, including an oversized rainbow flag waved by a homosexual man. Marcavage says he and his friends challenged the singling out of their group when others in the park were being allowed to display their messages without incident.

"We basically questioned them, asking if they could have their banners, why couldn't we have ours. They said 'Well, it's the content of the message,'" Marcavage explains.

He speculates that the Philadelphia team's corporate owners may have feared negative publicity. In any case, based on the Christian group's choice to display a message from the Word of God that might have convicted some members of the crowd, Phillies executives decided that neither the banner nor its bearers had any place in the park. Shortly after security ordered them to take down their banner, the four were escorted from the stadium.

Marcavage says although they were asked to leave the ballpark, they did have their money refunded and each received a free ticket to another Phillies game.

"Is that a violin I hear?..."

Likely just the wind howling through the vast emptiness where a brain should have been.

And what scripture do you base this on? If you're confused about the bible, go visit Rev. Phelps website. He backs up 100% of what he says and does with book, chapter and verse. Can you do the same?

And you will be judged by the same standard that you judge others. Somehow I think you and Phelps (I refuse to call him Rev.) are going to have a hard time squeezing through the tiny door into Heavan. You are saved by grace. If you had to count on your own acts, you're doomed.

Rev Phelps is a genius....he gets God's message out on national TV....while nobody else does.

I got news for you.

When Fred Phelps is on television, it is to mock him, and laugh at him.

And, he should be laughed at.

and there is almost a total media blackout of calling homosexuality a sin...how else do you reach these people?

You think telling them God hates them is going to "reach them"? What kind of convoluted thinking is that?

. Rev. Phelps only sticks out because the times have changed

Phelps sticks out because he is a nazi, and the only thing one should do to a nazi is laugh at him for the clown he is.

It might be helpful on Judgement day, to have the record show that you tried to share the truth with others, even though it was often rejected and you were ridiculed and called a purveyor of hate speech for your effort.

As a Longhorn Class of '84 I have never been quite as embarrassed by an Aggie before. Sure, members of the Corps can pull a weapon on a member of the Rice Mob or members of the corps can beat up UT Coeds on national TV after the Longhorns clobbered the Aggies at Kyle Field in 1985. Somehow, you manage to offend my Conservative Longhorn sensibilities even more than crazed members of the A&M Corps.

That'a always been my understanding.

I mean, there's a distinct difference between someone who says:

"Look, I messed up. I was tempted, I failed and when I failed I was wrong. What I did was wrong, it will always be wrong and I want to be forgiven for my trespass."

And another person who sinned similarly who says:

"Hey, so what? I "sinned" Big effen deal! It feels good, so do it! You should really try this! It's wonderful! I would encourage you to tell your friends and family that it's okay! Just do it! Come on!"

It's a substancial difference.

It's the difference between the penant man praying for forgivness because he is an admitted sinner and Satan enticing Eve in the Garden of Eden.

How you react to sin makes all the difference in the world, imo.

are they going to have a "CHRISTIAN Community Day"?

Of course not! That would show a religious preference!

Okay, I give.. Why is Bob Hope in hell?

Well, I only read a little bit, but he once had a fund raiser for some church that doesn't hate fags.

Why is Bob Hope in hell?

Supposedly, he was unfaithful to Delores. Or, maybe, in Phelps twisted mind, he's in hell because he appeared on stage with scantily-clad women. That's the kind of sicko Phelps and his spawn are.

I never heard any of that stuff about Hope; his wife frequently accompanied him on his overseas trips, so I don't see where he had much of a chance to be an inveterate womanizer.

If Phelps wasn't fooling all those gullible saps at his Westboro Baptist Church, and milking them of their hard-earned money, he'd likely be homeless, standing on some street corner with a cardboard sign saying "The end is near."

The UT Coeds were beaten-up by members of the Corps in 1995 not 1985. My mistake. By the way did you make it out to Bob Hope's funeral to protest his life along with your buddy Fred?

Yeah, I always thought of Bob Hope in terms reserved for the Ward Cleavers of the world.

Phelps is blowing smoke. He doesn't know where Bob is anymore than I do.

I just read an article that stated...

The average life expectancy of an American man is 76. The average smoker lives to be 66. Because of that difference, large amounts of money are spent each year to convince people to refrain from smoking. Lawmakers, the media, the entertainment industry and even the tobacco industry itself have spent billions in the anit-smoking campaign.
But the same motivation does not hold true when it comes to homosexuality. Bob Knight of the Culture and Family Institue points out that health statistics indicate that those in the homosexual life-style only live to the average age of 46 -- three times the gap that has motivated the anti-smoking campaigns -- yet the culture seems comfortable to keep promoting it as "normal and okay."

Is our society screwed up or what???
