Duncan's e-mail note ignites fury - Fresno council member wrote of using 'dirty bomb' to kill liberals.

Fresno residents and community leaders, outraged by an e-mail message in which City Council Member - Jerry Duncan wished he had a "dirty bomb" to kill every liberal in Fresno, called Thursday for his resignation, recall or reprimand.

"An elected official used city time and city equipment to make threatening remarks about volunteers for the community," Commissioner Cary Catalano said. "What type of precedent does this set for members of the community who want to be involved but are fearful that if they disagree with an elected official, they will be threatened?"

Well, Commissioner Catalano, what about the employee of a former council member(done in by this employee)who worked for a city council member while living in the County of Fresno and had city workers come out and clean up his property and do his yard(they even cut trees and stacked fire wood). He was a member of La Raza, I might add.

We should be above such behavior...especially when the opposition does it ALL the time, and their henchmen in the press cover it up, or sidestep it.

This is the act of a maroon, as my colleague Buggs would say...and it is not good leadership.

Although his heart is in the right place, we don't yet have a dirty bomb that will only get libs. It will take out the good folks, too. Let's get to work on it. :)

The comment itself cannot be defended. That being said, he apologized, so it's time to move on.

"If I had one dirty bomb and I could eliminate all the liberals in Fresno at once."

I really don't think that Duncan was serious when he made the above comment. How could a bomb of any type be able to pick out individuals to "eliminate" based on the individual's political affiliation or ideology? In fact, I'm more concerned about how the Fresno Bee twisted Duncan's words into "Jerry Duncan wished he had a "dirty bomb" to kill every liberal in Fresno".

Free speech? Bomb threats, even indirect, are not and never have been covered by free speech rights and you all know that.

Could you please tell us where we can get one of those "dirty bombs" that "eliminates" only liberals and leaves everyone else standing.

I agree. I don't think for a minute that Duncan was ever serious. But, if he has higher political aspirations in mind, it is better for him to be scorched now over crap like this, than to be burned later. The vitriol of the Bee towards conservatives is endless, and there is nothing too small for them to turn into something major.

So a conservative making irresponsible, over-the-top, violent, but IMPLAUSIBLE threats against other citizens is okay?

I don't know where you live, but I guarantee you that if I threatened you--I'm not--this is hypothetical--my posts would be pulled and I would be banned, because it's against the site rules here to threaten violence. The fact that I don't know where you live and therefore absolutely couldn't make a threat good wouldn't have anything to do with the consequence. Do you see what I'm saying? Free speech always has limits. They aren't always as clearly defined as they are on FR, but Duncan has definitely overstepped them and unless he can wiggle out like a Clinton he WILL pay for it.

Unfortunately, so will all Republicans.

I disagree with using a dirty bomb. A daisy cutter, or a couple of Hellfire missiles would be so much more fun ;-)

Hate speech! Hate speech! Only democrats can say stuff like that and get away with it.

I hope this blows over and everyone will learn from it.

Me, too, but the Fresno Bee has been trying to nail Duncan for a long time and they can be vicious - the hypocrites!!

ummery execution by firing squad is far more expedient.

LOL! WE KNOW YOU'RE JUST KIDDING AROUND and the liberal press is just lying in wait . . . waiting for any opportunity . . . and then they pounce. Thank Goodness for FreeRepublic.com where free speech reigns. Yahoo!

It was stupid and childish, he should apologize and get on with more important city business.

You have repeated variations of this in nearly every post. Where exactly was this "suggested"?

That is what the scuttlebutt is in Fresno area - that the liberal members of the City Council got a heads up and were able to delete their emails so as to look like innocent little angels - WHICH THEY MOST CERTAINLY ARE NOT. So to answer your question: It's the local grapevine. Thanks for asking.

It's wrong when they do it, and it's wrong when we do it. Free speech has consequences.

I wish some of you would stop making so much sense. Sheeeeesh.

Gotta wonder how long will it be before conservatives and liberals start trading real shots rather than words. The dialogue between ideologies is breaking down.

I laugh in your face. You will not find a more loyal Republican than yours truly. Grassroots volunteer here. I was hoping this thread would stick to the Duncan matter on which I thought we'd all pretty much agree - namely, that the liberal press is ONCE AGAIN going after a conservative Republican.

However, since you insist on dragging other issues into this, I would like to say this about that: THOSE REPUBLICANS WHO JUMPED IN BED WITH THE LIBERAL MEDIA TO DESTROY A SITTING ASSEMBLYMAN, AND WHO CONDUCTED A STEALTH CAMPAIGN TO PICK A CANDIDATE TO RUN AGAINST SAID SITTING ASSEMBLYMAN, SHOULD BE SOUNDLY CONDEMNED BY LOYAL REPUBLICANS EVERYWHERE. Amen.

I only wish there had been some way to let liberals surrender to the Soviet Union without the rest of America having to go along.

Good one.
