The militarization of our local police forces continues. You have to love all the arguments presented to validate this. Yeah, any excuse will do. Of course, those same reasons lose all validity when applied to us peons. Are we noticing a pattern here?

These are surplus M16s from the federal DOD with all the federal strings attached.

And when innocent citizens are caught in the crossfire, the state government will use all the taxpayers dollars necessary to exonerate itself.

Neat, huh?

What would happen if the police force was made up of people like us? Do you think things would be different? Just wondering out loud...

When the people are banned from having the same small arms as the police and military, you have tyranny.

The 2nd amendment was written to prevent that from happening, but treasonous politicians have acted to subvert the Constitution.

As for the police having taxpayer funded assault rifles, I am totally against the idea.

If an individual police officer wants one, he or she should have to purchase it on their own dime, and be subject to the same laws as we peasants are concerning type of weapon, transportation in a vehicle, brandishing, and use of force.

I wouldn't mind this so much except for all the unconstitutional restrictions on weapons ownership by citizens.

As it is, I think the community is in more danger with this program, not less.

Bears repeating!

Can you say "select militia"?
A regular standing army or police force is always a select militia, and it may serve the will of those in power, and be used against the people.
I knew you could.

" These are surplus M16s from the federal DOD with all the federal strings attached."

There is apparently a LEO database that just any incorporated PD or Sherrif can link with that can request all sorts of equipment free of charge! There was a 60min on CBS a few years ago that told the tale of a sleepy little town in central Florida with an officer count of about 40 full time cops at the most. But their chief is a computer whiz by local standards and on a whim one day he just sat down at the terminal and started to "interface." before he was done, he had over 100 M16's, 50 MP5's, A couple of M21 Sniper Rifles. But that's all small stuff. Wait till you hear about the used USMC LAV and the three UH-1H Huey choppers out at the old airport...with current state of the art aviaonics......and they're thinking of turning them into gun platforms......Maybe just in time to work in concernt with an evolution in revolution in platform techonologies and bite us HARD/on the butt...the 5th Point of Contact as it were.

I recall when Lugar was mayor and made national news by allowing officers to drive their units home at night.

The acquisition of 200 suit-makers should have the bar association high-fiving.

Letterman can do bits on broke Hoosiers after they reap the whirlwind.

As for Columbine, we learned that cops are cowards and only enter when the perps are dead--along with the children.
