I know this is a secondary concern, but how long will it take for frozen food to thaw/spoil in all of the restaurants and grocery stores? Will they be legally required to throw it all away? Just curious -- could have a short-term economic impact.

About day two of power outage due to hurricanes, I would crank up the only gas grill on the block and invite everyone over for an all day "Whatever is Defrosting Party". You are going to loose it, might as well grill it!

Most frozen foods, if the DOOR IS KEPT CLOSED, will last about 24-48 hours frozen.

After that, they're not frozen--but if still cold they'll keep for another several days.
