OCCASIONALLY history produces moments that make one pause and give thanks that some past event turned out the way that it did. Al Gores speech at New York University yesterday was one of those moments. It made us very thankful that George W. Bush won the 2000 Presidential election. Gore strongly suggested yesterday that had he been President he would not have used American military forces to remove Saddam Hussein from power. After accusing the Bush administration of being dishonest, he said:
The way we went to war in Iraq illustrates this larger problem. Normally, we Americans lay the facts on the table, talk through the choices before us and make a decision. But that didnt really happen with this war not the way it should have. And as a result, too many of our soldiers are paying the highest price, for the strategic miscalculations, serious misjudgments, and historic mistakes that have put them and our nation in harms way.
About the reasons for going to war, Gore concluded, In other words, when you put it all together, it was just one mistaken impression after another.
In sum, a President Gore would have left Saddam Hussein sitting fat and happy in his palaces, left the Iraqi people to be tortured, raped and murdered at will, and left Saddams weapons programs which did exist unchecked and under the control of a maniac who hated the United States and had gone so far in expressing this hatred as to attempt the assassination of one of its Presidents.
That Gore fails to comprehend the magnitude of the security threat Saddam Husseins regime posed to the United States and that he believes the Bush administration initiated an unjustified war purely out of venal political motives ought to immediately disqualify him from being taken seriously as a major political candidate. This is the stuff of delusionals and conspiracy theorists.
Gore went on to repeatedly accuse the Bush administration of deliberately deceiving the public on virtually every issue under the sun. Thats pretty rich coming from the vice president of the most dishonest administration in American history.
Al Gore is so completely out of touch with reality and with the American people that we shudder to imagine the state our nation would be in today had he been President for the past two and a half years.

Damn, that's so well said it deserves to be said again.

What does one expect from a fecal brained drivel dropper?
To: Luke Skyfreeper
It really makes you realize just how fortunate we are that Gore was defeated.

I saw that speech last night. I bet he is warming up to run.
The current D candidates support was at about 7% each, while Gore was around 47% off the top of my head (don't quote me on that but it was substantially different). Gore already has the name recognition so if he does run he will run at the last possible moment to save money and mud slinging just like Arnold did.
Based on his naive comments last night America is VERY lucky we got Bush.

I liked the part where Gore said that unter the patriot act Ashcroft's buddies can check out your library usage but they stonewall every attempt to get through the administration's privacy re Iraq and energy policy. what a crock huh.

Gore invented FreeRepublic.com and also your computer. Show some respect.

The editorial is dead-on.
I hope Al Gore does run. There needs to be a rematch. A crushing victory by Bush over Gore would put an end to all of the nonsense stemming from the 2000 election.
Here's the difference between Dubya and Clinton-Gore: The latter put their heads in the sand, the former put his boots in the sand. That's why around the world, everybody liked but did not respect the latter, and everybody dislikes but respects the former.

The thought that we were so close to having Gore as President takes my breath away.

Good article, however, if the writer thinks that Al Gore doesn't know and understand all the reasons we went, he is just as delusional as Albore. This was a man who was Vice President. He is the same man that placed none of these demands on his boss when he unjustifiably went into Kosovo. And in comparison, supposedly convinced the American people that that was a just war based on mass graves and ethnic cleansing...while for eight years completely ignoring the things this administration is finding in Iraq... Al Gore knew all this but is depending on the ignorant, uneducated mass of brain matter that's not paying attention...his constituents or those that want to overthrow America. He knew and he knows...he's just a media thrusted blowhard....and he's blowin'...real hard...

Iraq does pose a serious threat to the stability of the Persian Gulf and we should organize an international coalition to eliminate his access to weapons of mass destruction. Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to completely deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." -- Al Gore, 2002

I was listening to the local Amherst (Berkeley East) Mass. radio station, and the hosts were whining about why AlGore wouldn't run. "He won the popular vote!" "He missed the presidency by one electoral vote!" "He said that he wanted to be president all of his life!" "I don't know why he won't run!!" Etc., etc.
One big fat reason: If it was that close when he was an incumbent VP, and Bush was a relative unknown, then running against him now is an almost guaranteed loss. Two time losers don't command a lot of money talking to crowds, even dorks at NYU. He knows that 9/11 changed everything, particularly since he led the Gore Commission (on Airline Safety and Terrorism) in the mid 90's. Worked really well, huh? I would hate to have to run on that background.
And he still sounds like a condescending pompous know it all. Particularly losers shouting from the sidelines. Voters really hate that, even some of the KoolAid drinkers. So my opinion is: Bring it on, Al!!

Gore is playing to the Bush haters in a purely partisan and laughable speech.

Absolutely proves Ann Coulter's accusation. Gore and his ilk recognized the threat, hell, they tried to cover it up during their tenure. These people see the power of the United States as THE obstacle to their utopian goal of one-world government.

Apples and oranges, newbie.

Good post. Those are the types of quotes that the Gorbots need to see over and over again when it comes campaign time. That is a much better refutation of his positions than anything else one can say.

Gore, Hitlery and Billy Goatus should establish a school of elocution for hopeless morons.
These three never shut up, but paying close attention to syntax, etc., there is never a modicum of sensible discourse flowing from their filthy lips.
Of course those hopeless peanut-brains that gush over these candidates for lobotomies never hear the words, but enjoy the form and gestures of these socialist whores then make up lies about what it was they were supposed to hear.
With socialist, sycophantic morons it is apparently volume of words, never substance, that causes them to hurl forth gushing words of love and praise. They are, in effect, like Haitian Zombies.

Normally, we Americans lay the facts on the table, talk through the choices before us and make a decision. As president, Gore would have 'focus grouped' the decision. Bush, on the other hand, consulted with competent people, not 'likely voters'.
