Excellent point. And there, for so long I've thought it was Communism, and actually it is Darwinism that has set us on this slippery slope.

I venture if one went back and read contemporary opponents to Darwin's theories they one would find they warned of these very things coming to pass.

The purpose of science is to attempt to explain natural phenomena. It is an attempt to find the truth, not to worry about the consequences of finding the truth. Its not science's fault that your church can't handle the truth. Stop blaming others for your problems.
