Excellent, balanced refutation of charges that Mel Gibson's "The Passion" is "anti-Semitic," appearing in one of the most venerable of American Jewish publications, The Forward.

... we Jews need to learn some deep-breathing and other relaxation techniques This guy has his head screwed on straight. Hopefully there won't be any serious problems induced by the movie.

The descendants of those responsible for the crucifixion, whoever they may be, can not be responsible for the actions of their ancestors.
No one can trace his ancestry back more that about 1,000 years. The crucifixion occurred 2,000 years ago. No one can know whether or not he is a descendant of those responsible.

No one, least of all Jesus himself, really wants to re-open a two thousand year old murder case where the victim came back to life anyway.

The Gospel account of Jesus' trial and death are so quirky and detailed that I find it difficult to believe they aren't authentic, at least to a large degree.
